Tanzania becomes a donor country; gives Zimbabwe 260m/- as budgetary support

TANZANIA, which has long been one of the world’s biggest recipients of foreign aid, is now set to become a donor country in its own right - as far as Zimbabwe is concerned.

The country’s Ambassador to Harare, Adadi Rajabu, has announced a budgetary support package of $200,000 (approx. 260m/-) to be deployed in aiding Zimbabwe’s short-term emergency recovery programme (STERP).

The support from Tanzania has been availed as consultations continue on Zimbabwe’s 2010 fiscal policy framework, which covers various sectors of that country’s economy.

Rajabu, was quoted yesterday as saying in Harare- though little when compared to the $1bn required by President Robert Mugabe’s government to resuscitate the economy is expected to play a role in boosting some important Zimbabwean government projects

We are giving the money in relation to STERP and this will compliment what the (Zimbabwe) government is doing to address the macro-economic challenges the country is facing, said Ambassador Rajabu.

He appealed to other SADC countries to come aboard and fulfill their pledges to ensure the success of various programmes currently underway.

Zimbabwes economy is doing well...inflation figures are dropping and commodity availability has also improved although prices are still high, said Adadi, a former Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) back home in Tanzania.

The aid package offered is a fulfillment of Tanzania’s pledge made at the Southern African Development Community (SADC) extraordinary meeting of heads of state and government, held in Mbabane, Swaziland in March.

This is not the first time the country has extended assistance to Zimbabwe. Last year, Tanzania donated about 40 tonnes of medical supplies to help fight a cholera epidemic in Zimbabwe

By the way $260m if it is US Dollars then ni over One Third of the US aid to Tanzania signed by Mr Bush and Kikwete when the former visited Tanzania.
Its like the Radar thing UK aid package was £30million but we borrowed $40m From Barclays to buy an obsolet Radar worth less than $20m.
We must be loaded if not carzy!!
