My friend's sister and her husband from UK were on the flight several days ago...this is what my friend wrote to me:

" thank God. On their flight from Zanzibar to Nairobi they had to do an emergency crash landing and jump out of the plane - would you believe it. My sister said apparently when the pilot landed, his angle of landing was not right and as they hit the run away the plane just sped rather than slow down and i think one of the front wheels of the plane came off. Oh my god - I saw the photo my sister took of the plane and I'm so glad they all survived and no one was injured. Her Husband said the pilot did well to steer the plain to the grass verge to slow it down. But all the passengers went into panic mode and got hysterical, the flight attendants were shouting get out get out coz they thought the plane might blow up. I can imagine your wide mouth reading this! She said her husband was such a hero, no one could open the plane door but he managed to push it open, he jumped out shouted to her to jump out and then got back on once plane had slowed to help other passengers, the kids etc. Basically it was like one of those scenes out of a film except it would happen in real life to my sis who we all know is mega scared of flying. She goes all she said was pray like a hundred times. Poor her- she was highly disturbed in traumatic shock when we saw her, i think seeing us made her feel much better. She was crying all the way on the flight from Nairobi to UK, coz scared something was going to go wrong again. She said her husband was so good and patient with her, calming her down even when she was ratty. Can you believe at the end of an idyllic holiday what happened......"

  2. me, me, me!... your sister's husband was such a hero, but i dont believe nobody could open emergency doors than him! those crews are trained for minor mishaps like that.

Crash landing is not a strange thing, though am a bit astounded with a bravery of your "sister's husband" who jumped from the plane while it was still skidding!!!) without an injury, and managed to crawl back to save others! huh, such a interesting hearsay!

  7. Green confirmed as ambassador to Tanzania

    The Associated Press

MILWAUKEE — Former U.S. Rep. Mark Green has been confirmed as the country’s ambassador to Tanzania.

The confirmation came late Friday in the Senate, said Mark Graul, a spokesman for Green.

On Thursday, Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., lifted a “hold” he had placed on the nomination, which had prevented it from reaching the floor for consideration.

Kerry had said he opposed political appointees as ambassadors. But he lifted the hold after meeting with Green, members of the Wisconsin congressional delegation and his colleagues on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

President Bush nominated Green, 47, for the post in June.

Green, a Republican from Hobart, served four terms through January in the House of Representatives. He unsuccessfully ran for Wisconsin governor last year against incumbent Democrat Jim Doyle.

Green, who is currently a lawyer at Godfrey & Kahn, visited Africa while in Congress and he and his wife were volunteer teachers in Kenya in 1987. Green’s father also is from South Africa.

Green said in a statement he was excited that the nomination went through and thanked the state’s delegation for their help. He said he was heartened to return to the region and is now planning his move, so no date has been set. His wife and three children will go with him.

“Tanzania is a key ally and a good friend of the United States,” Green said. “I am very grateful to the president for giving me this chan

  8. Nice story about our country this time

Merdeka Expedition Glad To Be In Tanzania

DAR ES SALAM (Tanzania), Aug 4 (Bernama) -- Participants of the Cape Town-Kuala Lumpur Merdeka Expedition 2007 were mighty glad when they arrived in Tanzania yesterday, as their handphones could function again.

Before this, they were unable to use their handphones in Zambia and Zimbabwe as there are no facilities for mobile phones in the two countries.

A woman member of the expedition, Wan Nor Aishah Meor Yusof, 41, told Bernama that she was very happy to be able to be in contact with her family members again.

She was also pleased that the climate in Tanzania was warmer compared to South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe, where it was very cold.

However, she said she found the people in the three countries to be very hospitable.

After Tanzania, the expedition, which aims to cover seven African and seven Asian countries, will head for Kenya next. It is due back in Malaysia on Aug 31 for the 50th Merdeka (Independence) celebrations.
