Dear CEC Members, Corresponding Members & Associates, CEC Supporting IYPS 2008,

Final registrations are now underway for the 3rd International Young Professionals Summit (IYPS), taking place in Manchester , UK , between 19th- 23rd August 2008. The Summit is being supported by the Commonwealth Engineers Council and brings together young professionals from across the world to discuss strategies in achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals.

CEC will be fielding several speakers and delegates from the engineering sector and IYPS will provide an opportunity for networking, capacity building and information- sharing, with core themes to include:

- Environmental Sustainability including energy & infrastructure- Governance, economy & education
- Women and gender equality- Healthcare and HIV/AIDS

CEC encourages young professionals in the built environment profession to participate - and their companies/employers to support them. Core infrastructure and related professional knowledge are vital for successfully attaining the UN MDGs.
As part of the Summit delegates will take part in a variety of sessions concerning the MDGs and will also be able to visit local sustainable development projects supported by the Mersey Basin Campaign. Alongside the attendance of the core delegates, online facilities will be installed in order for young professionals across the world to participate actively in the sessions.

This is an excellent opportunity for young engineers from across the Commonwealth with an interest in development to engage with their peers and to discuss and debate strategies for change. Consequently CEC would be grateful if you could circulate details of the event, included in the attached flyer, to those of your members who may be interested.

For more information, including the latest programme, please visit the IYPS website www.iyps.org where you can download a detailed programme,
or contact the CEC Secretariat directly.
Nalitolela,
P. S.
