

Vodacom Tanzania receives a Superbrands status in East Africa for the year 2007/2008.
Launching the first edition of the Superbrands in East Africa, at an exclusive event in Nairobi, Kenya, last Thursday, Superbrands, the world’s largest independent brand organization recognized Vodacom Tanzania as an outstanding brand in East Africa.
The Acting Managing Executive in the Marketing Department Ephraim Mafuru received the trophy and a certificate on behalf of Vodacom Tanzania.
Superbrand identifies and pays tribute to exceptional brands from all over the World and that the organization runs the Superbrands scheme and promotional program, each with brand focus of publication at its core. The book pays tribute to brands that it considers exceptional through its programs which are consumers’ driven programs.
A brand qualifying as a Superbrand in any country is automatically invited to become a member of an International network and take part in promotional campaign in a particular country. Also brands with Superbrands status are entitled to use the exclusive Superbrands awards logo on their packaging and advertising as a hallmark of quality.
Vodacom has been in the forefront of technological product innovation tailored to customers’ expectations. Since its inception, Vodacom has pioneered products like prepaid and post-paid roaming, SMS, per second billing, credit transfer, content, video calling. One of the brand’s biggest achievements and competitive advantage was the launch of its 3G HSDPA network in February 2007.
Vodacom Tanzania was the first network in East Africa with a 3G HSDPA network and was only the second in Africa (Vodacom South Africa being the first). Vodacom has consistently maintained its leadership within the market being the first network to connect one million, then at two million and more recently 4.5 million customers.
Other customer retention programs include Tuzo points and Tuzo Draw together with Vodafone M-PESA that allows its customers to send and receive PESA via phone. Vodacom Tanzania has also launched Vodazone service recently that allows its prepaid customers to make calls at discounted prices depending on the location and time.
Vodacom Tanzania has so far employed directly and indirectly more than 50,000 people across the country.
