Secondly, there is a contest invites aspiring journalists to compete for $10,000 and video equipment prizes ‘In partnership with the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, the video sharing site YouTube has launched Project: Report, a competition that encourages aspiring journalists to produce short videos focused on stories that are not usually covered by traditional media.

The winner will receive $10,000 to travel abroad and the opportunity to work with the D.C.-based Pulitzer Center on a story of global importance.

All finalists will also receive video and editing equipment and be featured on YouTube.
Until October 5, contestants can create and submit a profile of up to three minutes of an individual of significance in their community. Submissions must be in English.

An expert panel will choose the top 10 entrants, all of which will receive technology from Sony and participate in a journalism conference.

In the second and third rounds, the YouTube community will vote to select the top finalists and the ultimate winner.

For those of you who contribute to or host blogs, there is a competition by Deutsche Welle.
‘The German international broadcaster Deutsche Welle has launched its fifth annual blogging competition.The awards will recognize excellence in blogging, podcasting and videoblogging in 16 categories in 11 languages.

Bloggers and blog-readers from across the world have until September 30 to submit their favorite blogs for consideration. From October 27 to November 27, users will be encouraged to vote online for their favorites.For more information, visit
Then there is a course on the Internet for journalists Journalists are invited to apply for a six-week course on the use of the Internet for research, publication and distribution, to be held in Hilversum , the Netherlands , from May 11 to June 19, 2009.
The course will focus mainly on content, in addition to technical skills, and will explore the potential of the Internet as an important source of information; discover how the Internet can best be used as a communication tool; and examine participant-specific uses of the Internet for publication and distribution.

Applicants from 57 countries can apply for fellowships offered by the Dutch government to pay for travel expenses, accommodation and the course fee. The deadline for course applications is October 1 and the deadline for fellowship applications is December 1.
