Fellowship invites African journalists to work in Germany

Region: Sub-Saharan Africa Southern African journalists have the chance to compete for the Southern African-German Journalists‘ Bursary to work for two months in a media outlet in Germany.
Applications will be accepted from December 1, 2008 to January 31, 2009.
The program, sponsored by the International Journalists’ Programmes, seeks to foster relations between Africa and Germany, as it enables young journalists to gain valuable insights into Germany. Participants experience the day-to-day journalism of their host newsroom while also researching stories for their home media.
Candidates must work for a media organization, be between 25 and 35 years old, fluent in English and come from the eligible countries: Angola, Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. German is not mandatory.
The fellowship 2009 begins in May with an introductory conference for all delegates, followed by the journalism internship. Applicants must submit their preferences for the newspaper, radio or TV station or news agency where they would like to work in Germany.
Participants will receive a fixed payment of EU€3,000 (about US$4,035) to cover most of their travel, accommodation and living expenses.
