He was handsome, healthy-looking, intelligent and honest. You will probably agree with me that those qualities are hard to find among most of our modern day politicians who, driven by selfishness resort to undue lavish life style, drinking, excessive eating and what have you...

If only God would bring back this man! Just for one day, just for a day. We have the most unimaginably incompetent and corrupt leaders now. Just imagine, the President of our beloved Republic Jakaya Kikwete was recently subjected to one of the most abusive uses of modern technology on a website recently and I do not recalla single cabinet Minister reacting or condeming this- not even the Minister of Information whose docket this matter belongs to. He did not even say whats teps he would take. Yet, when newspapers and other media and individuals write and broadcast stories about some individuals fleecing this country (and there has been mounting evidence that this is indeed the case and this matter has even drawn the attention of foreign law enforcement agencies such as the Serious Fraud office of the UK) our ministers junp to the defence of the fraudsters. Shame on you: Sofia Simba, Mkuchika, Bendera, Chiligati and all fisadi defenders; you must be in the pay of Rostam, Manji et al

TAFADHALI REJEA HISTORIA YA TANZANIA, ITS ONE OF THE KIND NA NDIYO MAANA WATANZANIA TUKO TOFAUTI NA WATAAFRIKA WENGI NA WANASEMA WAZI KUWA YOU GUYS ARE LUCKY TO HAVE A LEADER LIKE MWALIMU. UNAPASWA KUCHAPWA VIBOKO. I'M PROUD TO BE A TANZANIAN AND IAM PROUD TO BE A CHILD OF MWALIMU MAANA YEYE NI BABA WA TAIFA.

Nyerere was a great man no question about that, but his policies failed miserably and still failing in a country like Cuba. When he left, what infrastructure was there? how many colleges/universities did we have?...we have made a step forward lakini mafisadi wamezidi...hio kweli...

Ndiyo, hajala mamilioni, lakini hawa watoto wa CCM walaji, walafi, mbumbu including the praisers, ndio wako kwenye kiza.

Ni nini cha maana alichokifanya, then lesotho, would be a great country in whole africa, kama mukiwa wachawi wa kufuata uchawi, usio na dira.

Mungu Amlaze Mahali Pema Peponi

This is just a quickie to respond to the two anonymous posters of 7:16PM and the bold 9:20PM. First, to the 7.16PM post and I quote: “…but his policies failed miserably and still failing in a country like Cuba. When he left, what infrastructure…how many colleges/universities did we have?” These are ill-felt statistics and I think common sense should prevail here. As you mention the failure of policies let me hear what you have to say about the Chinese unprecedented economic growth. I want to hear about what you know or say about the recent “miserable failure” of the western economies. Then please let us know how many universities Kenya had when the capitalist Kenyatta left and, indeed, how may Universities Iringa had during the non-socialist Mkwawa (unless you tell me he was never a Hehe hero). That is what, I call common sense. The number of universities was always going to rise and, for a country like ours, they will keep rising – with or without Mwalimu. Finally, please let us know, in your humble opinion, whose policies are succeeding or ever succeeded since you have known Tanzania as a country.

Now to the bold view of 9:20PM and I quote: “Hivi mnajua watu wangapi waliwekwa vizuizini na kufungwa jela bila ya sababu maalum kutokana tu na maagizo ya Mwalimu Nyerere ili wasimletee upinzani katika uendeshaji wa nchi? I have tried to highlight a handful of key phrases (allegations). The first one is particularly interesting and makes me recall night time stories my grandma used to narrate to me and my sister about dangerous monsters, stupid hyenas and clever rabbits to which we listened with keen interest and while we may have wondered why a hyena had to believe a rabbit we simply had to take them as they came. I find your bold text no much different form stories of fire exhaling monsters and we can only be expected to believe you. You ask whether we know – indicating that we don’t and you know. Good for you.

Achievements za Mwalimu zilikuwa nyingi. Ni kweli we must take a balanced view of history na alikuwa na matatizo pia kama binaadanu yoyote mwingine.
Look at the socail and public investment he made: Hale, Mtera and other hydro electric power damns- in contrast his successors have burdened us with IPTL, Richmond and Dowans and a funny tapeli South African company(I can't even remember the name it was such an unkown brand)with no experience to manage TANESCO; free education and Universities like UDSM, Sokoine and Mzumbe; hospitals like Mbeya referral and Bugando- in contrast his successors have given us buildings called schools with no teachers, no desks no facilities and Universities like University of Dodoma with underqualified Kenyan lecturers with forged academic documents; he gave us unity and in contrast we now have parties that are pulling this country apart serving small sectarian interests witness the plutocratic CCM, the CUF the tribalistic CHADEMA;Nyerere gave us pride and international respect and we were able to punch above our weight internationally we could influence what went on in international capitals and the fate of neighbouring countries like Mozambique, Uganda, Angola, Namibia Seychelles etc and we were serious contendors for the UN Secretary Generalship it took world super powers (US and USSR)to stop us- in contrast we are now the laughing stock of the world because of how corrupt our government is; he cared for the poor and was not spendthrift or cleptocratic- in contrast we now have leaders not just privatising but personalising public property throw away price privatisation of government houses, NBC, Kiwira coal mine et al, careless and heartless public expenditure to buy luxurious fleets of customised Toyota VXs, Merceds Benzes and BMWs, the EPA scandal etc.
Yes we had a one party state, preventive detention ( but pehaps taht is where these fisadis and corrupt leaders should be now)but hell we had a communicative government constantly in touch with the citizenry as what it was planning to do and why. Does anyone know what the government is trying to do and why since Mkapa's time todate? Mkapa was busy lining his pockets by selling the country to foreigners, no empowerment of Tanzanians, declining education standards and literacy rates ( guys do you know we had higher literacy rates under Nyerere than we have now)Literacy all over the world and throughout history is a sine qua non of development- this is what India and China focused on when Nyerere was in power and continue to focus on even today and they have begun to reap the benefits- somehow Nyerere's successors lost the plot they did not see literacy and health as important to development.Capital has flodded into India and China after liberalistaion because of high literacy rates and standards, capital will flood into Cuba should they decide to liberalise again because you have a highly literate and healthy population. liberalistaion in China and India has been managed with India and China in mind and not to benefit foreigners because of a patrotic proud and literate leadership- we gave up on these things especially once Mkapa came onto the scene and Nyerere passed away.
God help us: we don't need superficial analysis on top of the current corrupt and compromised leadership governing in the fisadi, rather than the national, interest.

Tutamkumbuka kwa kuwa hakuwa mwenye tamaa ya kujilimbikizia mali kama viongozi wetu wa sasa but at the same time hakutaka watu wafunguke macho. But any way this can be put down to a wrong choice of political idealogy that he chose.

Could you please summarise, the 'achievements' as you put them this guy brought to the country. I know a few, free education, promotion of Swahili...mmmhh what else...you tell me since you know so much. All I know is my parents used to queue up to get sembe or toothpaste..Do you call that progress?. History tells me that countries like Malaysia, Indonesia were in the same state as Tanzania in the 60s and where are they now compared to Tanzania? The problem with Tanzania has not started with mafisadi. The problem started when our man took over the country from the British. Poor planning, inexperienced leaders and the lot. So now here is your chance tell the nation what did he do in 25 years?

Elimu siyo kiingereza.
