May I now please take the opportunity to briefly respond to Kamau from Nakuru, Kenya. I think it’s only fair to say “Get your house in order before you start criticizing your neighbour’s”.
When I started reading Kamau’s note, I actually thought it might eventually amount into something constructive, only to realize it’s another one of the arrogant Kenyans probably wishing Brazil was coming to Kenya. I don’t mean to sound biased but Kamau himself admits Kenyans can be arrogant towards the rest of their neighbors. But that doesn’t really come as a surprise since the first-next question every Kenyan I have met, mind you I have met a lot of them, would ask is “what tribe are you from?”. Does it matter?? or is it because in Kenya there are tribes that consider themselves more superior than others, thus the tribal hatred in the country.
I lived in the United Kingdom for several years and I too noticed a lot of wrong done by our fellow Kenyan neighbors. On a personal level as Kamau has displayed his experience, I lived with quite a few Kenyans myself, some of whom took six years to complete a three years degree course and still failed. So do I go on call all Kenyan’s dumb and lazy bums?? Nairobi is rated as one of the highest crime cities in Africa, Should I brand Kenyan’s as violent??
The Kenyan government spends lavishly on cars and posh houses whilst the country has one of the highest numbers of street kids in the world, do I call all Kenyan’s funny creatures as Kamau puts it?? With my personal experience, I’ve never met people who drink so much like Kenyan’s in the whole of East Africa, should I call Kenyans drunkards??
If you have the same problems as we have with your government, why do you go running your mouth calling us funny creatures, and you are not?? Or did I forget that you are not arrogant, you are just too smart Kamau. It’s not a smart thing, not at all, to single out a few problems, a few people who tarnish our country’s image and brand the country by their mistakes and stupidity.
We are proud of the Mashaka’s and Shayo’s but there are many more in Tanzania Kamau, maybe you should visit one day, don’t worry it’s not violent as it is in Nairobi.
Let’s drop the unproductive criticism and focus on the real issues. I myself am one of the Tanzanians who as much as I am excited about Brazil being here, I am also a bit unnerved by the reports of how much our Government has spent to clinch the Brazil deal. Yes it is sad seeing all the unfortunate circumstances in our country go unvoiced and yet so much money is poured into bringing a group of footballers come visit our nation.
But unlike many lavish expenditures our government has incurred, I believe every industry has to grown by its own strength and initiative, and in the process assist another industry indirectly. Why do I say this, by the Brazil football team being here we do gain something, actually we gain a lot. The matches played will be broadcasted worldwide thus giving us invaluable exposure, the promotion of our football industry and not to mention a high boost of our tourism industry.
I know I said lets drop the criticism but I’m not sure how many Tanzanian’s are aware that the Kenyan government promotes Mount Kilimanjaro as being their own.
We all have problems in our African countries but the most important thing is to voice those problems in a constructive manner and find a way forward TOGETHER not through unconstructively criticizing each other’s problems. South Africa has a leading number of rape and HIV infection, do we go on criticizing the money spent to prepare for the world cup or do we find a way for the world cup to be a helping hand in the epidemics facing the nation, the continent. Let us be one and support Africa as one continent, one nation.
Mdau Uncle Tom,

ReplyDeleteWell said uncle Tom. I do propose to all Michuzi blog stake-holders to debate the Mt. Kilimanjaro issue.
ReplyDeleteKenyans have been lying to the world that Mt. Kilimanjaro is in Kenya and have been benefiting fraudulently.
Mdau, Dar es salaam
Well said!
ReplyDeleteGreat Comment Uncle Tom.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate. There is always a benefit even in the hopeless of situations. Umefanya kazi nzuri Uncle Tom kuonyesha how constructive criticism works.

ReplyDeleteThis is my first contribution to your blog though I have been regular visitor and avid reader of your varied content on a daily basis.
I want to respond to Bw Kamau. I honestly think he does not deserve any response from anyone but perhaps just to keep this blog lively, my response and others may serve a purpose.
He does not really deserve any response because he does not represent that progressive thinking of many Kenyans. Many of them know and attest to the fact that Tanzania is more of a nation than many other African countries because we have already graduated from those petty tribal, religious and perhaps colour differences.
Despite some people despising our unifying language which we proudly speak; Kiswahili, it has been a strong unifying factor in our country and a source of envy for many a nations. This nationhood promoted by a unifying language is a critical process and a milestone that was attained many years ago in Europe and other developed countries before they could seriously start embarking on their development process which resulted into what we now see as Europe, Japan, USA etc.
Common language builds trust among citizens and questions like which tribe are you? are a source of ridicule in Tanzania. I believe therefore that Tanzania is in a much better position to launch itself into the next phase which is economic growth.
To achieve this Tanzania need to emerge from its shell. Think out of the box. We need to change our mind sets and take advantage of the opportunities that are beckoning on us. The Brazil soccer team visit is one of the evidence that Tanzania sees the virtue in promoting its image as a country to attract wider global attention with the benefits that go with self advertising and promotion. Just like the world cup in South Africa, many lopsided minds will never see the economic side of it. It is an investment it is not just football and any fool can easily understand that.
Finally, it might be useful to remind each other that some countries (not just Kenya) which appear to be very much ahead of Tanzania have succeeded due to historical reason since colonial days and NOT the purported smartness of its citizens. So Kamau spare yourself of the worries you have for your neighbours; Tanzania.
Well said uncle Tom. I love you for this. Also this Kamau makes us hate the Kenyan's even more. Hata matangazo redioni nasikia ya colgate na blueband why use kids from kenya hawajui kiswahili? Matangazo yanayorushwa katika redio zetu zitengenezwe na watu wetu. Na kwanza nimeshawakataza home kununua colgate na blueband because of people like this Kamau. I'd rather buy Holland butter than a product from people who hate me and my entire country!
ReplyDeleteGracious Tanzanians,
ReplyDeletePlease do disregard the remarks made by that time waster. (I don’t even wish to mention his name) His views DO NOT represent the rest of US Kenyans, infact its just appalling.
He might be branding himself with the label of arrogance but if we go by that name of his then we know for sure they are a bunch of arrogant morons anyway, and not all Kenyans hold such backward opinions.
His clearly displayed himself as a shallow individual and not worth any credit.
His goal was to create and brew animosity between Kenyans and Tanzanians, but how pathetic that has just shown through.
He should wake up this is the 21st century Peace is at the pinnacle of it all. People should give constructive reviews and back it up with facts but not merely picking on a single issue that has no beneficial value to him and try to epitomise a storm…nobody will tolerate this kind of perceptions.
Love and Blessings To you All.

ReplyDeleteThose $$$$$ could have been spent more effectively to promote whatever sh.i.t needs t be promoted.
Wizi mtupu!!

"Kamau" is actually some evil fake, reminiscent of "Raj", with very diabolical designs to create a rift between Kenyans and Tanzanians at the time when the East African Union is forging positively forward. Most of us, sane Kenyans, never stop to admire the dignity and grace of Mwalimu's people. I can't even go on reacting to "Kamau's" insanity but, let me just mention that there are a lot of Kenyans who literally believe that they would most likely be dead today had Tanzanian leaders, Mkapa and Kikwete not intervened to resolve the bloody savage TRIBAL conflict after Kofi Anan had been unsuccessful.
ReplyDeleteThe Brazil Match which cost incredible amount of money to organize will not be televised to Tanzanians!
ReplyDeletewhy are we attacking Kamau? We should have aimed our complaints to the government.
All this hype and we are not even going to watch the match live!
