The Tanzania PhD Network (TPN) is a cross-disciplinary network for previous and current PhD students/candidates in Tanzania. Membership of TPN is not limited to Tanzanians only, but it includes other foreign researchers and PhD students doing their projects in Tanzania.
The Main Purpose of TPN
The purpose of the TNP is to promote and facilitate cooperation and collaboration among PhD students and other scholars within the country.
The network will act as a platform for sharing and exchanging research experiences related to Tanzania.
However, we aim at establishing a more formal network platform that will join all scholars in Tanzania irrespective of their home academic institutions.
The TPN Main Goals and Activities
The core goal of the Tanzania PhD Network (TPN) is to create a forum for PhD students in Tanzania which will enable them to communicate with each other,
learn and get new perspectives on their own as well as from others and the research process. The main activities planned will involve: carrying out research seminars, sharing PhD experience in Tanzania, organizing PhD consortium conferences, involving international PhD-students more actively since they have more access to the current and required PhD resources e.g. recent publications, forming a platform for creating research collaborations within and beyond PhD-research and exchanging contacts, creating a forum for hosting short courses in PhD relevant topics such as:
The application of referencing software e.g. Reference Manager, Endnote, etc
The use of qualitative research data analysis such as: NUDIST, NVivo, Atlas
The use of quantitative research data analysis such as: SPSS, STATA, AMOS, etc
Advanced Research Methodology courses
Scientific theory analysis etc.
Carrier strategies and opportunities after PhD
The TPN membership (Membership criteria)
The network is primarily aimed at enhancing research quality and collaboration among PhD students located in the different institutions. The current TPN membership is based on individual subscription to the TPN committee. However, in the future members will determine all issues related to the organisation’s structure, membership criteria and future TPN goals and objectives.
The current Target TPN members
The current target members of the TNP network are PhD-students, Master’s students and Research assistants planning to become PhD students in the near future. We encourage all PhD students of different academic backgrounds to become members as the value of any network depends on the size of its NODES.
