Azania Bank Limited has donated sun lotions to the Albino Society of Tanzania to help them overcome the challenge of sun burn.
Speaking shortly before handing over the donation to treasurer of the Tanzania Albino Society, in a function held at the bank’s headquarters in Dar es Salaam yesterday, Mr. Godwin Seiya, Director in the Managing Director’s Office, said the donation worth TZS 3.0 Million would help the society to reach albinos who could not afford to buy the lotion.
“Today Azania Bank Ltd, through Positive Thinkers Association and Tanzania Albino Society, has decided to offer part of its profit and help our brothers and sisters with albinism. This being our responsibility to plough back part of our profit to the community,” he said.
Mr. Seiya said by recognizing the challenge and difficulties people with albinism face, Azania Bank Ltd has donated special sun lotion which will help to protect their skins from being damaged by direct sunlight.
“We offer this support in respect to the 7th Tanzania Albino Day celebrations which started on 2nd May and end on 4th May at a national level in Lindi Region. We urge other citizens, organizations and companies in Tanzania to provide part of their profits to helpour fellow citizens and communities with different kinds of problems and challenges.” he said.
On her part, the Treasurer to the Tanzania Albino Society, Ms. Hellen Machibya, challenged other organizations operating in Tanzania to copy Azania Bank’s gesture by showing readiness to assist people with albinism who cannot afford buying this kind of a lotion.
“I thank the Azania Bank Management for this positive gesture towards people with albinism by setting aside part of their profit to assist people with albinism who cannot afford buying this special lotion which sells very expensive!. “she said.
Ms Hellen said her society was facing a challenge of serving a larger number of its members who cannot afford buying the lotion because of their economic status and high price tagged on this special lotion.
She also wanted the Government to consider revising the tax law, and if possible wave tax on those special lotions so that its price can be afforded by many albinos in Tanzania.
“The price of these sun lotions is too high for many albinos to effectively afford in Tanzania because of their economic status. One lotion goes at Tsh.35,000/-, a prices we believe gives a well-off people an upper hand to buy than the low income earners. So if we can get organizations like Azania Bank Ltd, who have willingly contributed to our society, I am sure we can reach many Albinos in Tanzanians,” she said.
Azania Bank Limited have grown into a medium Commercial Bank, if you judge by the size of its balance sheet of TAS 190 billion assets as at December 2011, while its branches have grown into ten with presence in Dar Es Salaam, Arusha, Mwanza, Moshi and Kahama. Late December last year Azania Bank opened a Mwenge Branch in Dar es salaam, while Moshi and Arusha City branches were opened in March this year.
Further plans are afoot to increase number of branches and several service centers in other town that can offer its customers and general public distinctive banking services.
