CHIEF JUSTICE MOHAMED CHANDE OTHMAN MEETS SENIOR U.S. OFFICIALS IN WASHINGTON, D.C.

The U.S. Department of State hosted ten Supreme Court judges from African countries including Tanzania's Chief Justice Mohamed Chande Othman (center at back row) to participate in a 10 day Voluntary Visitors Project from October 14 through 24, 2012 that focused on topics related to the judiciary system of participating countries. 

The program further aimed at advancing the knowledge of judges about the U.S. trial process, court management systems, alternate dispute resolution and mediation, and judicial training opportunities. In addition, it promoted an appreciation for the rule of law and the advancement of fair, transparent, accessible and independent judiciaries around the world and examined the U.S. judicial, civil and criminal justice systems. 

 The African Supreme Court Justices met with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court John Roberts and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Upon returning to Tanzania, Chief Justice Othman expressed his appreciation to the U.S. Department of State and lauded its support for African Supreme Court Justices to meet each other and their American counterparts through the exchange program.
