Hamis my brother, this type of approach is what is letting us (developing countries) down. I would expect a lot of issues to be addressed through appropriate channels.
ReplyDeleteI can't not believe, a member of a parliament writing such a letter to a multinational company CEO. Did you review contractual obligations? Did you take time to speak to the Ministry of Energy and Minerals or a parliamentary committee responsible for minerals? I can see you have highlighted a lot of health problems in your constituency, is that a feasible approach to realize health gains in a population?
I expected you to help people of Nzega realize their full potential in a sustainable way. People of Nzega need to own the process to transforming their lives.
What I see from this letter is a transfer of responsibilities,not a mechanism to seize this opportunity. Resolute are your development partners, they are in Nzega following appropriate legal consultation, and government contractual binding. Coming with such a letter at this point is to reflect your weakness in a development field.
Once again, I did not expect such a letter form a member of a parliament(CCM). It is pity!
Its good start but lets wait and see if this move will continue or stopped by top guys and giving us stories......

ReplyDeleteIf its true that is where you have made mistakes.Those guys will not corporate with you in this matter and at the end you will fail to achieve what you intended.Please follow the protocols.

His Excellence the president JK alisema kuwa kijana ana kasi sana anahitaji apikwe kwanza apikike then ndiye awe mbele kuongoza watu.Nikikumbuka ile kauli ya JK na hii barua uliyoandika Mh.Kigwangalla nathibitisha usemi wa JK kuwa kijana anahitaji kuwa mvumilivu kwanza ajue mambo ndiyo afuate utaratibu.Barua imeruka vitu vingi muhimu na utaratibu.Sidhani kama Kigwangala ulipata muda wa kupitia mkataba wa Resolute na serikali yetu,na kupata ushauri kwa wataalamu wa madini wizarani na sehemu nyingine pamoja na mawakili kabla ya kuandika barua hiyo.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous number one. Your so called proper channels are none existent in our current govt and your so called contractual obligations are fraud and iligitimate. Sullivan mine in Nzega made more than 3 billion $ and only paid the govt 19 million in taxes. You call that a contract ???
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely shameful and whoever signed that contract belongs in prison. The Tanzanian people just gave away $3 billion while we are rotting in poverty. This is mental illness and if us wananchi dont do anything about this we are in serious serious trouble.
ReplyDeleteI just sent an sms to the Hon MP of Nzega to thank him for doing whats right for the people of Nzega and Tanzania as a whole. I beg all Tanzanians especially those living abroad to do the same, lets develop a culture of praising and cheering on govt officials and leaders that are doing whats right and meeting their civil obligations because we need more people like Dr Hamisi in govt. Bad leaders and corruption is the source of all our problems

Kitu cha kwanza bila kuleta uchama mngeungana na wabunge wengine hasa wa upinzani kama kina Zitto kuhakikisha kuna uwazi katika hii mikataba na pia kuna policy nzuri na madini na nishati nyingine kabla ya mikataba mipya kuingiwa. Pili muhakikishe mikataba inatimizwa na severe consequences kama haitimizwi.
Cha kushangaza unashambulia hii kampuni lakini huchukui hatua zozote kwa viongozi na watanzania wengine waliohusika kusign hii mikataba au wanatakiwa kuhakikisha enforcement of these contracts 100%.
Nitashangaa sana kama hawa jamaa watakujibu maana hawako accountable kwa serikali yeyote. Na nguvu waliyonayo inahitaji umoja wa serikali na wananchi kushindana nao.
Kasome "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" ndio utaelewa namaanisha nini na hii mikataba imekujaje badala ya kukaa na kuunga mkono kila hoja mbovu inayoletwa na CCM bungeni au kupinga baadhi ya mawazo mazuri ya wabunge hasa wa upinzani bungeni.
Lack of know your interests before you sign the contact,Lack of proper due diligence,poor negotiation skills and lack of patriotism. All of the above was the results of the loss we are have got through this type of contract.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why the the gentleman from Nzega is crying. As a member of parliament, he should know that one of the function of parliament is government oversight. Why you or whoever was Nzega MP did not intercept when Resolute Mining Ltd was still operating in Nzega? You should have called the CEO to the Parliament Mining Committee and ask him questions. He was suppose to appear before the committee anytime he fails to satisfy his obligations.
ReplyDeleteTanzania has been doing this privatization thing for +/- 20 yrs now, we should know by now how to be effective and protect our country's interest when we sign these bogus contracts.
What I see here is lack of personal responsibility. We need to change the way we give away our natural resources for almost free in the name of globalization. It doesn't make sense to see that we made $19 mil out of $3 bil. Why we can't have 51% and 49% for whoever is willing to invest? Then, we can build the so called "state of the art high school" from our own income?

I was concerned about Kingwangwara's closing broken English. We don't say I am looking forward to hear from you. Instead we say I am looking forward to hearing from you.

ReplyDeleteIf Sullivan invested $48 mil to operate the mine in Nzega and made $3 billion out of it. Doesnt it make sense for us to come up with the $48 million so we can keep 100% profit of the 3 billion, why do we have to share profits with foreigners ?
ReplyDeleteI say we demand a halt to all mining activities in Tanzania by foreign companies and conduct public examinations of every single contract. Until then not a single stone should not be allowed to cross our borders.

ReplyDeletePeople are dying in Nzega we just got robbed $3 bil some people here are concerned about the MP's English and writing skills. As if their English is any better. Get off your high horses.
ReplyDeleteDamn if you do damn if you dont. The problem is no longer govt ministers responsible for signing these bogus contracts or Sullivan himself but the MP and his English. If the oversight existed or the govt was functioning like its suppose to function the MP wouldnt have been forced to contact Sullivan. If you report crime to the police and the police doesnt take action what do you do? keep on going back to the same police or look for an alternative? what if the police themselves are the criminals? Theres a reason the MP cc the president because govt officials responsible were not responding. And why should they while they are the ones who signed off on the contract in the first place.
