Look: it’s me and mini-me! Ok, actually, it’s Barack Obama and Senegal’s President Macky Sall, in matching outfits, from the light blue ties and white shirts down to the two-button suits. Message: great minds think alike. Or at least think that they ought to dress like their guest (who is known for dressing like this) to make him think great minds think alike.

Think we will see more of this over the next few days, as the US president moves on to South Africa and Tanzania? I think it will be interesting to see. But speaking generally, I do think it’s a political trend to dress like one’s negotiating partner. It makes breaking the ice so easy: just say, “I like your suit.”
