The British High Commissioner, Dianna Melrose, commented today on the acid attack in Stone Town, Zanzibar on 7th August which left two British nationals injured. Speaking following the incident, she said:
“It was a shocking attack and our thoughts and sympathy go out to the young women and their families. We wish them a speedy recovery and will continue to do all we can to support them.
I would like to thank the Governments of Tanzania and Zanzibar for their public condemnation of the attack and their stated determination to leave no stone unturned in finding the perpetrators, and ensuring they are brought to justice. This will reassure British tourists planning to travel to the island.
Pending police investigations, it would be unwise to leap to conclusions about the motive for the attack or what it means for foreign visitors. Nevertheless, we have updated our Travel Advice to inform people of the attack and reiterate the need for caution”.
The British High Commission provided consular assistance to the girls and their families, including facilitating the victims’ flight from Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam, supporting them while in hospital in Dar Es Salaam and liaising with the insurance company over their medical evacuation.
Zanzibar remains a popular tourist destination and most visits are trouble free.
British nationals are however encouraged to take care and to read our Travel Advice at: www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/tanzania”

Many thanks Dianna. Just to add on, Tanzanians have no culture of targeting/attacking anyone. However,we are seeing it now.The attack did not target these girls simply because they were British(To my opinions). You might be aware that some Tanzanians are also being attacked by these bloody 'GANGS'.I agree with you, it would be unwise to leap to Conclusions.MUNGU IBARIKI TANZANIA.

British media houses extensively reported this event which to large extent demolished the reputation of Zanzibar as a global tourist zone. Every good citizen can agree with the truth that the event committed against those Britons is uncultured thus has to be deeply condemned.
ReplyDeleteI congratulate Her Excellency Dianna Melrose, the British High Commissioner to Tanzania for her statement, but I also would like to advise her to deliver another statement to condemn the action by the British Citizen who was caught with elephant tusks and other natural resources being illegaly owned. Also British mass media have to publicise this to the same margin informing the world about this embezzlement.
ReplyDeletemsihukumu tu wakati hajulikani nani aliyefanya hicho kitendo
