Cellular Phone Company Airtel Tanzania has decided to fight the challenges facing the education sector in the country to assist secondary schools by providing teaching facilities and learning materials.
Airtel through its project dubbed “Shule yetu” has donated science text books worth 5/- m to Chalinze Secondary School.
Speaking at the handover of the books, Airtel Marketing Manager of the Southern zone and Morogoro region Aminata Keita said the books will be used to increase the level of understanding and performance to students who had a shortage of books before.
“These books will be used to promote student performance for students will be able to follow-up and get access to materials easily, " said Aminata .
She went on to say that donated books were part of a strategic plan to help community schools which are blamed to perform worse especially in their national examinations.
"We have given science books by the fact that good number of students are not performing well in those particular subjects and I believe this project “Shule yetu” will enable community schools do well on national exams,” said Aminata .
For his part, Chalinze Secondary School Headmaster, Mr. Emmanuel Kahabi said access to books will make teaching work easier and also students will be able to understand easily.
" Unlike earlier many students were using one book to read , but now we have many books which will help to facilitate teaching work also reduce absenteeism in school as pupils will be able to read anytime they want and books are available. "said Kahabi .
For their part , the students of Chalinze Secondary School applauded Airtel for their support saying that books available will help them to get access to different materials more easily than before.
