Restless Development is a development agency which works in 8 different countries, including 6 in Africa. Their head office is based in London, UK.
· The ICS programme is a volunteer scheme for 18-25 year olds and is funded through the UK Government’s Department for International Development (DFID), which brings together volunteers from Tanzania and the UK to work together to the tackle the pressing problem of graduate unemployment
· The ICS programme was designed to focus on graduate unemployment throughout Dar Es Salam after research conducted at the start of 2013 revealed that young people within Tanzania lack information regarding the core soft skills employers look for in their employees.
Restless Development Tanzania will be hosting a career fair
at Institute of Financial Management University in Posta on the 14th
December from 10am-3pm. The event, which will be open to all university
students throughout Dar Es Salam, is run as part of Restless Development’s International
Citizen Service scheme (ICS), a programme which focuses on tackling the
pressing problem of graduate unemployment throughout the city by delivering
peer to peer employability skills sessions in universities. These workshops
cover a wide range of topics including the core skills employers look for,
advice regarding CV writing, and how to become self-employed. The response to
these sessions has been overwhelmingly positive with a consistent rate of
attendance, reaching over 500 students across the six universities Restless
Development currently works in.
The aim of the careers fair will be to offer upcoming
university graduates the chance to discuss first hand with potential future
employers what they look for in an employee, along with offering students the
chance to learn more about what opportunities might be open to them after they
graduate. In addition, the event will be a good opening for employers to
network with upcoming graduates and see what they could potentially bring to
the company in the future.
The companies who have so far confirmed to attend the event
include: Airtel, Quality Group, Learn IT and VSO.
This will be the second career fair organised as part of the
Restless Development ICS scheme. The first, which took place in July 2013 at
the British Council in Posta, had 12 businesses in attendance and over 250
students.
