The British Council Tanzania started the journey of BG Tanzania scholarship on
February 2014 with promotion and awareness creation to the Universities in different
regions in Tanzania, receiving applications and selection of 10 scholars followed by
scholarship awarding to 10 scholars.
The British Council conducted a pre-departure briefing on 15 August, 2014 as part
of preparation for their studies in UK to 10 BG Tanzania Scholars who won the
award to study Master’s degree in oil and gas in UK for the 2014/15 Academic Year.
On 27 August, 2014 the BG Tanzania organized a special lunch and press
conference to 10 BG Tanzania Scholars who will depart in early September 2014 to
commence their Master’s studies in Oil and Gas for engineering and geology studies
at 2 universities in the UK: University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University

The one year BG Tanzania scholarships will cover the cost of tuition fees, books,
thesis, study field trip, accommodation and return flight.
The BG Scholars were selected on the basis of academic merit from a field of geo-
science and engineering who received admission from the two (2) UK Universities
namely University of Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University.
Eight (8) of the
Scholars are men and two (2) are women, and virtually all intend to obtain a Master’s
of Science Degree majoring in Geo-science and Engineering for Oil and Gas
industry.
The scheme is funded by BG Tanzania and administered by the British Council,
Tanzania. It offers Tanzanian graduates the opportunity to pursue postgraduate
education at universities in the UK with focus on specific geoscience and
engineering courses that are particularly relevant for Tanzania’s emerging natural
gas and related sectors.
Since its first award in 2012, the BG Tanzania has bestowed 4 scholarships for
the two academic years: 2012/13 and 2013/14. As a long-term commitment to
promote science in Tanzania, The BG Tanzania plans to award twenty (20) more
postgraduate scholarships in Oil and Gas for the 2015–2016 and 2016 - 2017
academic years.
