The Government has reiterated its support to the international bodies that are aimed at enhancing the rule of law in the world saying without peace in the world there can be no development.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam today (Monday, October 27, 2014), the Deputy Minister for Constitutional and Legal Affairs Hon. Angellah Kairuki observed that peace and rule of law were inseparable from development.

“We highly value the contributions of international courts and tribunals in advancing the rule of law and peace keeping at the international and national levels,” she said while opening one-week training on the Rule of Law for Judicial Affairs Officers in the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations in Dar es Salaam.

The one-week training is jointly organized by the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO), the East Africa Law Society, the Germany’s Centre for International Peace Operations (ZIF).

“Without peace and the rule of law there can be no development,” she revealed noting that rule of law is the very essence and bedrock of any democratic and successful society.

Ms. Kairuki reminded participants to the meeting about difficulties arising from conflicts and urge them to explore ways of addressing them.

“This training is coming at a time when the Great Lakes Region still smells the blood of innocent men and women … as you look at the Central African Republic, I urge you to go further and explore ways in which Peacekeeping Operations can work together with local actors so that loss of lives can be avoided,” she said in a meeting also attended by Germany Ambassador to Tanzania, Mr. Egon Kochanke.

Others who attended were Mr. Cerian Sebrogondi, Head of European Union (EU) Delegation to Tanzania; Mr. James Mwamu, President of the EALS; Mr. Charles Brieffel and Ms. Stefanie Kirschweng from the Criminal Law and Judicial Advisory Service (CLJAS) and Centre for International Peace Operations (ZIF) respectively who jointly organized the training with the EU, the East Africa Law Society (EALS) and the Criminal Law and Judicial Advisory Service of the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO).
