The
scope of work comprises the refurbishment of the terminal building (built in
1971), the construction of a new parallel taxiway, the extension of the
existing apron and taxiways, including repairs on the runway, as well as the
drainage and sewage works. Furthermore BAM will install new airfield ground
lighting and floodlights along the apron.
Funding
was partly granted by the Dutch fund ORIO for the development and
implementation of this project. The remaining part is guaranteed by commercial
financing arranged by the Government of Tanzania.
Kilimanjaro
International Airport is one of the four international airports in Tanzania and
is the second largest airport after Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar
es Salaam for which BAM has completed two rehabilitation projects already and
is currently constructing the new Terminal 3 building.
This is good and it has come right on time when we need to modernize and expand such infrastructure to boost transport and tourism.
