Dear friends and supporters,
I am very please to be able to share a brand new song and video with you. Twajiachia was recorded at Tao Studio in Hamburg, together with German producer Flo Bauer during the Mzungu Kichaa and Malfred tour at the end of 2014.
Their Tanzanian backing band Bongo Beat also joined them for the recording session.
All musicians are featured in the music video, which was directed and shot on location in Hamburg by Zeki Oguz Teoman.
The video represents the journey of 6 musicians from Tanzania, who during their tour, do a quick visit for a one day studio session, and record from the heart and from the fingertips.
Twajiachia literally means ‘we are letting go’ but in slang it would translate more towards ‘we are having fun’. The chorus ends with the line ‘ngoma likipigwa tuna pata raha tele’ which means ‘when the drum beats, we are filled with joy’. ‘At times we all face hardships and music can be an important tool to help bring back the joy and purpose in life. Twajiachia is meant to do exactly this!’ – Mzungu Kichaa.
The song is an example of the globalization of urban club music: an upbeat fusion between European electronic sounds, Bongo Flava and Jamaican dancehall.
