The Election Commission of the Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC) has officially announced that its general election will take place on December 14, 2024. 


With a large turnout of candidates expected, application forms for those seeking to run will be available starting tomorrow, Tuesday, November 5, 2024, at designated offices on the mainland and Zanzibar.


The Chairperson of the Election Commission, Advocate Ibrahim Mkwawa (left), stated that 12 positions will be contested according to recent amendments to TOC’s constitution, that has changed the portfolios of Secretary General and Treasurer from elected to employed members.


Mkwawa emphasized that gender balance will be a priority, ensuring that women candidates are adequately represented.


The TOC election commission is led by Mkwawa himself, with his Vice Chair, Malangwe Ali Mchungahela, and Secretary, Halfani Omari. Positions up for contest include Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, along with 10 members of the executive committee. 


The committee will include five members from mainland Tanzania and five from Zanzibar, with each side required to have at least two female candidates.


The election is scheduled to be held at Dodoma Hotel on Saturday, December 14, 2024, and is expected to attract athletes, coaches, and various sports stakeholders nationwide. 


According to Mkwawa, application forms for mainland candidates will be available at the TOC offices in Mwananyamala, Dar es Salaam, while on Zanzibar, forms can be obtained at the headquarters of the Diabetic Association of Zanzibar in the Mpendae area, at Binto Amrani.


Currently, TOC is led by President Gulam Abdallah, a former player and coach of the national football team, Taifa Stars, with Henry Tandau as Vice President and Filbert Bayi as Secretary-General.

Kamisheni ya Uchaguzi ya Kamati ya Olympic Tanzania (TOC) imetangaza rasmi kuwa uchaguzi mkuu wa kamati hiyo utafanyika Desemba 14, 2024, huku wagombea wakitarajiwa kujitokeza kwa wingi na zoezi la kuchukua fomu kwa ajili ya wagombea litaanza kesho Jumanne, Novemba 5, 2024 katika vituo vilivyopo  Tanzania Bara na Visiwani.


Mwenyekiti wa Kamisheni ya Uchaguzi, Ibrahim Mkwawa, amesema katika uchaguzi huo unaotarajiwa kuwa na ushindani mkali, jumla ya nafasi 12 zitagombewa kwa mujibu wa mwenendo wa uchaguzi ulioainiwsha kwenye katiba ya TOC iliyofanyiwa marekebisho. Mabadiliko hayo yamefanya nafasi za Katibu Mkuu na Mweka Hazina kuwa za kuajiriwa.


Mkwawa amesisitiza kuwa uchaguzi huu utaweka kipaumbele kwa usawa wa kijinsia, ili kuhakikisha nafasi zinagawiwa kwa uwiano unaozingatia wawakilishi wanawake katika pande zote mbili za Jamhuri ya Muungano wa Tanzania.


Kamisheni ya uchaguzi ya TOC inaongozwa na Mkwawa mwenyewe akiwa na Makamu wake, Malangwe Ali Mchungahela, na Katibu wao, Halfani Omari. Nafasi zitakazogombaniwa ni Mwenyekiti, Makamu Mwenyekiti, pamoja na wajumbe 10 wa kamati ya utendaji. 


Kamati hii ya utendaji itajumuisha wajumbe watano kutoka Tanzania Bara na watano kutoka Zanzibar, ambapo kila upande unahitajika kuwa na wagombea wanawake wasiopungua wawili.


Kuhusu nafasi za Katibu Mkuu na Mweka Hazina ambao katika katiba ya awali walikuwa pia wanagombea, Mkwawa amesema hao watakuwa ni waajiriwa kama ilivyo katika 


Uchaguzi huo umepangwa kufanyika katika ukumbi wa Dodoma Hotel, siku ya Jumamosi, Desemba 14, 2024, na una matarajio ya kuwavutia wanariadha, makocha, na wadau mbalimbali wa michezo nchini kote. 


Kwa mujibu wa Mkwawa, fomu kwa wagombea wa Tanzania Bara zitatolewa katika ofisi za TOC zilizopo Mwananyamala, Dar es Salaam, huku kwa upande wa Visiwani zikipatikana katika makao makuu ya Diabetic Association of Zanzibar, eneo la Mpendae kwa Binto Amrani.


Kwa sasa, TOC inaongozwa na Rais Gulam Abdallah, ambaye ni mchezaji na kocha wa zamani wa timu ya Taifa ya mpira wa miguu, Taifa Stars, akiwa na Henry Tandau kama Makamu wa Rais na Filbert Bayi kama Katibu Mkuu.
