The members of the Selection Committee of The Africa Road Builders – Trophée Babacar NDIAYE met on April 17, 2026, in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, as part of the 2026 Inaugural Conference, to designate the laureate of the Super Prize Great Builder – Babacar NDIAYE Trophy 2026.
This year, the central theme of the proceedings was: “Investing in roads, investing in transport: for prosperity in Africa.”
During this annual meeting, the Selection Committee meticulously assessed the quality of investments in the road and transport sectors across the continent, drawing on the 2026 report of the Media Network for Infrastructure and Finance in Africa (MIFA), as well as publicly available reports in these fields.
Following deliberations, the Committee proceeded with the designation of the laureate of the Super Prize GreatBuilder – Babacar NDIAYE Trophy 2026.
Accordingly, His Excellency General Mamadi Doumbouya, President of the Republic of Guinea, has been designated Laureate of the Super Prize GreatBuilder – Babacar NDIAYE Trophy 2026.
He has been recognized for his personal leadership as well as for the investment efforts undertaken under the Simandou Vision 2040 program. This program indeed represents one of the “largest logistical transformations ever carried out in Africa.”
The Selection Committee particularly commended his commitment to integrated and sustainable development, as well as his vision to build outstanding infrastructure in the road and transport sectors for his country.
The Selection Committee congratulates His Excellency General Mamadi Doumbouya on this distinction and solemnly invites him to receive his trophy on May 27, 2026, in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, during the Final Conference, which will be held on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank (AfDB).
Under the Builder Trophy
The Selection Committee thanks all speakers of the 2026 Inaugural Conference and is pleased to announce the laureates of the Builder Trophy for the year 2026:
- Road Maintenance Fund of the Republic of Guinea
- National Road Fund of Liberia
- AGEROUTE, Côte d’Ivoire
- PMUA Project, Côte d’Ivoire
- Road Transport Regulatory Authority (ARTI), Côte d’Ivoire
- National Bureau of Technical Studies and Development (BNETD), Côte d’Ivoire
All these laureates are also invited to receive their trophies during the Final Conference on May 27, 2026, in Brazzaville.
The Selection Committee extends its gratitude to His Excellency João Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola, Laureate of the Super Prize Great Builder – Babacar NDIAYE Trophy 2025 and High Patron of the 2026 edition, as well as to his Special Representative at the 2026 Inaugural Conference, His Excellency Victor Hugo Guilherme, Minister of Planning.
The Selection Committee expresses its deep gratitude to Côte d’Ivoire and its highest authorities for their hospitality. It extends its sincere thanks, particularly to the Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs and to the Minister of Planning and Development, for their distinguished contributions to the success of the 2026 Inaugural Conference.
The Selection Committee also thanks the United Arab Emirates, the regular host of the Inaugural Conference over the past three years, which, despite the relocation of the event due to the current situation in the Middle East, have remained committed to supporting this development initiative led by African journalists.
It joins the General Commission in expressing its deep gratitude to His Excellency Ali Youssef Alnuaimi, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Côte d’Ivoire, for his advice, his effective presence at the Inaugural Conference, and the messages of cooperation and development he conveyed.
