NMB Bank Plc has advanced its Medium-Term Plan 2026–2030, (Agenda 2030), by committing approximately USD 100 million (TZS 224 billion) to a landmark USD 500 million syndicated financing facility arranged by Nedbank Corporate and Investment Banking for AngloGold Ashanti's Geita Gold Mine.

The commitment makes NMB the largest Tanzanian bank participating in the transaction, highlighting its growing capacity to mobilise domestic capital for strategic investments that support national development while reinforcing its position as a leading financier of Tanzania's productive sectors.

The financing aligns with NMB's Agenda 2030 strategy, which identifies mining as a key driver of economic growth. By supporting one of Tanzania's largest mining operations, the bank is helping strengthen foreign exchange earnings, local value chains, employment and the country's industrial and export competitiveness.

The investment also supports the ambitions of Tanzania Development Vision 2050 by promoting private-sector-led growth, industrialisation, export expansion and greater local participation in strategic industries.

As one of Tanzania's flagship mining operations and among Africa's leading gold producers, Geita Gold Mine is a major contributor to the national economy. The facility will support AngloGold Ashanti's continued investment in the mine, sustaining production, exports, local procurement, jobs and long-term economic value.

Commenting on the milestone, NMB Bank Plc Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ruth Zaipuna, said the transaction reflects the bank's strategy of directing capital toward sectors with the greatest potential to transform Tanzania's economy.

"This transaction demonstrates NMB's ability to participate in sophisticated, large-scale financing alongside leading regional and international financial institutions while ensuring Tanzanian capital plays a meaningful role in financing nationally strategic investments. It is Agenda 2030 in action, deploying our balance sheet, expertise and partnerships to accelerate sustainable economic growth and long-term national prosperity."

She added:

"Tanzania Development Vision 2050 sets out an ambitious pathway towards a more competitive, inclusive and industrialised economy. Financing investments of this scale enables us to strengthen a sector that drives exports, foreign exchange earnings, local enterprise development, employment and sustainable economic transformation."

NMB's participation further reinforces its role as a long-term financial partner to Tanzania's mining industry. To date, the bank has cumulatively financed the sector with approximately TZS 400 billion, supporting responsible mining, local supplier development and investment across the mining value chain.

The Geita financing also demonstrates the growing ability of African financial institutions to collaborate on complex transactions that mobilise long-term capital for strategic investments across the continent.

NMB Bank commended Nedbank Corporate and Investment Banking for arranging and underwriting the syndicated facility, noting that the transaction reflects the strength of regional financial partnerships in advancing Africa's sustainable economic development.
