This is the most dignified first lady Tanzania ever had. The lady who set very high standard in Ikulu, but her successor failed us. I admire this lady.
ReplyDeleteWe love you, mama. You are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
ReplyDeleteHow did mama Maria set a high standard as a first lady? She was a house wife, she didn't participate in productive activities.
I admire mama Maria as a person but I would prefer to have a first lady who is active especially in women and children struggle. Mama Maria wasn't involved in either.
To be fair to mama Maria may be the role of a first lady of 70's was quite different to today's first lady where media manipulation and PR is part of the game.
Anony, what kind of high standard she set in Ikulu? we dont know. please clarify.
ReplyDeleteWajameni - her times were different, we were socialist - Mama Maria had no role set out and her husband was struggling to create a unity among us that didnt need to be interfered with what the First Lady was or was not doing. I admire her immensely for standing by her husband while he dedicated his life to the country and not her and the children - she must be very strong. And a husband who made her live a life of less previlege compared to zillions of first ladies around the world - Mama Maria - our hats off to you.
ReplyDeleteI bet it was not easy to live with that stubborn man (haambiliki) We LOVE YOU !
ReplyDeleteNot true that Mama Maria didn't participate in social or "productive activities". She did a lot of women, children and welfare causes especially in 1960s and 1970s. I will admit that in the last years (1980s) she diminished her public role, for what I heard, personal and family reasons. Nevertheless, its is totally untrue that she didn't do anything, that she was merely a housewife. How absurd!
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean by to be active in productive activities. To be active in women and children struggle is not the job description of the first lady. Fisrt ladies by definition, are house wives and their main job is to advise the husband. Is that not enough productive activities?
ReplyDeleteSomeone sounds like Anna Mkapa who was there to make the money by promoting corruption and nepotism in Ikulu. That is the kind of first lady is needed today. Am I wrong?
Nkosi sikeleli Tanzania!
Nyambafu...hamjui kiswahili?
ReplyDeleteHujui kiingereza !
