ReplyDeleteUConn Lives Another Day
Feb 05, 2007 | 7:34PM | report this STORRS, Conn. - Jim Calhoun was nervous before Monday night’s game against Syracuse – and he had every right to be.
His young UConn Huskies were in danger of playing for the right to play in the Big East tournament rather than the NCAA tournament.
UConn hit the 15-win mark and is 4-6 in the Big East, but the home win against the Orange was the team's signature win thus far this season.
The key will be if Calhoun can find someone capable of taking the pressure – and double-teams – off Adrien. Stanley Robinson (he of the $3 million insurance policy) hasn’t shown any consistency. A.J. Price has been a major disappointment thus far and Hasheem Thabeet (also of the $3 million insurance policy) is strictly a defensive presence at this juncture.
The Huskies have six conference games left after the weekend matchup with Paul Hewitt’s Yellow Jackets. A trio of winnable home games against Seton Hall, Louisville and Villanova and road games at Syracuse, Rutgers and Georgetown.
