Bongoland II - "There's no place like home" - "Nyumbani Ni Nyumbani" Our new site is now up and running giving you all the details of our upcoming production this summer in East Africa...Bongoland II...a sequel to Bongoland, the movie we produced in 2003.
This is by far our most ambitious project because it is taking us out of comfort zone and pushing us to the big leagues. This movie will follow Juma to Bongoland starting July 1st and will be shot on location in Dar-Es-salaam, this summer.
It is a movie which will answer all the questions you were all left with at the end of the original Bongoland epic...what happened to Juma when he got home? Did he get a job?,Is he married and does he have kids? How was he received by his 'people'? Is he getting the respect he deserved? Did his family treat him well? All these questions will be answered with even more surprises no place on earth could have prepared Juma for.
What is encouraging about the upcoming movie is the fact that it has 100% of the actors from Bongo some of whom you will be able to easily recognize. This is in line with our goals to showcase Swahili on the world cinema stage as well as the talents of Swahili speaking actors.
The pool of actors have already been acquired and come from several acting communities in Tanzania like the students at the University of Dar's performing arts faculty and veteran actors who have been seen in local TV shows as well as locally produced movie videos.
Among the new comers who have already screen tested in Dar for the movie include Natalie Noel, Miss Tanzania 2005 1st runner up. Also screen tested was Issa Muhidin Michuzi, a popular blogger from Dar whose blog keeps a lot of us updated as to what is going in on in Bongo.

The release of the movie is expected to be in November of this year.
This leaves plenty of time for you to find out how it all started by acquiring the original copy of BONGOLAND.
The movie will give you good background to understand what Juma faced on a daily basis as he struggled in the United States chasing the American dream. In the meantime, we are awaiting the official permit to shoot the movie from the authorities in Tanzania.

  1. Michuzi,

I am following with great interest the Tanzanian screen tests for Bongoland 2. Just a tip to all, don't overact.

Most Tanzanian actors have theater training, but when it comes to film you must be able to tone down that acting for the camera. Facial expression is very important for the camera.

I just did a screen test for a popular US TV show, I made sure I got some coaching before I went and I will gladly share my knowledge with you.

    Best Wishes to all auditioners.
