The Fulbright Science and Technology PhD Program (S&T) – for Tanzanian scientists who qualify for doctoral studies in the U..S. Deadline April 27, 2008
The Fulbright Junior Staff Development Program (JSD) – for Tanzanians wishing to pursue masters or doctoral studies in the U..S. Applicants must have at least a bachelor’s degree and at least two years’ experience in their field. Other criteria apply. Deadline June 1, 2008
The Fulbright Senior African Research Scholar Program (ASRSP) – for researchers with a doctorate who wish to go for specific research in the U.S. Deadline June 30, 2008
The Hubert H. Humphrey Program (HHH) – for professionals and administrators with a minimum of five years’ experience in their field who wish to go to the U.S. for one year of non-degree academic study and professional development. Deadline June 1, 2008
We recommend visiting the websites prior to attending the information sessions for these programs whose times are given below:
S&T, JSD, and HHH – March 18 and 19, two sessions a day, 9-12 p.m. and 2-5 p.m. Please register by emailing drs_exchanges@state.gov.

Kiswahili teachers from Tanzania in high demand abroad, culture ministry says
APA-Dar es Salaam (Tanzania) A large number of Tanzanians are expected to get employment as Kiswahili tutors abroad as soon as the necessary arrangements are completed, the Director for Cultural Development in the Ministry of Information, Culture and Sports, Professor Hermas Mwansoko said here Saturday.
Prof Mwansoko also urged Tanzanians to take advantage of the growing demand of Kiswahili teachers as the language continues to grow in the international arena.
He said that at the moment, more than 1,000 Tanzanians have already applied for posts to go abroad and teach Kiswahili through the ministry, and that the process of scrutinising the applications would be ready soon.
“We are planning to enter into agreements with countries that require Kiswahili experts and there are countries such as Ghana, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa and Libya which have already expressed interest,” he said.
Earlier, the minister for Information, Culture and Sports, Mr Muhammed Seif Khatib, told reporters that the government was working to promote Kiswahili as an international language. He said Kiswahili was now one of the African Union (AU) official languages used in its forums.
He added that efforts were under way to make it the official language for the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The minister also said the process to set the East African Community Kiswahili Commission was in the final stage and its headquarters would be established in Dar es Salaam.
According to Mr Khatib, a process was currently under way to prepare a simplified Kiswahili text for foreigners, as well as a diplomatic dictionary that would encourage the use of Kiswahili in international forums.
