KILA LA KHERI TAIFA STARS!
ReplyDeleteHAYA NDIYO MAONI YA VYOMBO VYA HABARI VYA CAMEROON KUHUSU MECHI NA TAIFA STARS:
The Lions: what does it take to remain INDOMITABLE?
19/06/2008: The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon play against The Taifa Stars of Tanzania in Yaounde on Saturday in their 4th game in the combined eliminatory for the 2010 African cup of Nations and world cup competitions. If last Saturday’s game between the two sides is anything to go by, then the lions have a lot of work to do to maintain their driving seat in the group.
The Dar Es Salam expedition was a clear warning signal to the Lions that they too could be an endangered specie even if their trademark image has broken bounds world wide.
Cajoled by the near shivering people who all expected a heavy defeat, consoled by newspaper reports that clearly saw the lions too strong for the Taifa Stars, and lulled to sleep by the name Tanzania that doesn't inspire much, The Indomitable Lions came face to face with realities only when it was too late.
The Taifa stars that had a better mental preparation controlled the best sequences of the game, with their Brazilian born coach Maximo Marcio putting in place a strong anti-Eto'o system that worked so well.
Even their midfield line was well placed, while their agile attackers failed to score just because of the excellent shape of keeper Kameni Carlos and defense lieutenants, Rigobert Song, Andre Bikey and Geremi Njitap.
Though both teams played a goalless game the Tanzanians celebrated their success story, because, for them, playing a draw with the indomitable lions was an exploit, in their newly constructed 60.000 capacity stadium and in front of their president Jakaya Kikwete.
One could clearly see tiredness in the lions den, due mostly to their long seasons in Europe but also the long journey in one week; 15 hours from Yaounde to The Mauritius and too many transits on the way to Dar Es Salam.
Otto Pfister on the other hand, is still to find another marksman who could solve the Eto'o dependence phenomenon in the lions den.
Achille Webo is still to hit target, and the Mallorca marksman is still to be that attacker who creates spaces. His only strong point, his powerful header has become so rare.
In the midfield line, only Modeste Mbami, Jean II Makoun and Alexandre Song have been holding tight.
Last Saturday, the team's output was even worse when the German technician made his replacements.
Achille Emana, Gustave Bebe Mbangue and Alain Nkong failed to deliver the goods, thereby enabling the Taifa Stars to gain more spaces and lay siege in the lion’s Den.
It is true Saturday's game between the two in Yaounde will be a different ball game, but the clowning Lions shouldn’t neglect the threatening Cape Verdeans who're now just 1 point away from the Lions in the group standings.
As such the Otto Pfister crew should step on the gas pedals, create an environment for competitions amongst the players and bring lasting solutions where there are cracks in the team's organization.
It is also true that 7 point on 9 is a very good score for Cameroon but bookmakers will be happier if the record sheet will read excellent.
As the boys train in camp, the watchwords are seriousness, discipline and victory. Sources at the administrative units of the national team say the same security measures will be taken around the team like from day 1, but that more avenues will be opened for those they term 'real journalists' to have access to the players.
This to avoid a second episode of the now famous series where pressmen are head butted for refusing to ask questions.
