Dear brothers, sisters and comrades:
This is so devastating. I have no words. And here I am sitting in Toronto in transit to Dar tomorrow arriving Dar on July 1st afternoon. I have no one here to share my sorrow with except Parin and amil. Don't know what to do.

Feeling so helpless.
I am with you in spirit.

Collectively express my profound shock to Saida, my dear friend.
Give the best farewell ever to my dear dear friend of over 40 years.

Buriani rafiki yangu,
ndugu yangu,
kamaradi Haroub Issa

Wako,
Issa Shivji

I knew Prof Haroub For along time. He was a good man and very understanding. All time politely arguing and making his case. He was the best among UDSM Profs. at IDS Dept. He knew well and extensively his subjects. Whenever He spoke people will be quiet and attentively listening and in the end there will eb aplause!
    RIP Prof

    Rest in peace Prof.
I had an opportunity to be taught by this great thinker and I enjoyed it immensely. In most of his classes he just showed up without any prepared notes on paper, every material just flows straight from his head, he was an amazing lecturer. Machapisho yako and all the the good things you left behind will be highly reverd for years to come, I salute you Sir!!

    Amelala tu......

Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raajiuun. I vividly remember your last words to me on the day we met outside the University Computing Centre in Dar Es Salaam after many years, last January. Seeing a face you couldn't immediately place stretching a handshake and salaam to you, you immediately grabbed the moment with the following philosophical words: "As I saw you crossing the road over to me, I knew you were one of my boys, but who could it be? This is such a big place. But I said, let me wait, if he is he'll surely come to me." The reality is, everyone could always come to you - being a man of the people you had always been as the would testify the young man who rushed in to unclamp your car in my presence. Your last words as we parted were even more touching. They were words of wisdom, care and encouragement. "Pass my love on to your family and wherever you are keep in touch with those of your kind and help each other. Sisi muda wetu umekwisha." In a state os shock it has taken me over 24 hours to come up with the words. I managed to call one of your greatest friends, Ahmed Gurnah, in the early hours of Sunday. I could feel how frozen he was at the other end of the line.

May Allah azza wa jalla bless you with the best of places in janna and keep your spirit going among our posterity.

Hakuna msomi yeyoye aliyepitia mlimani bila kumjua prof wetu jamani. I will never forget him, alikuwa tofauti kabisa na walimu wote wa DSA (DEVELOPMENT STUDY) ambayo usipofaulu hata ukipata misonge yote ile wewe utadisco tuu. He was really a teacher alikuwa hana haraka ya kufundisha na anahakikisha wote mmeelewa vyanzo vya many issues za afrika ambazo nyigi zilianza wakati wengi wetu hatujazaliwa. Amemifundisha for 3 years niliyokuwa hapo mlimani and I learnt a lot from him. He liked to talk about the legendary leader of africa, kina Kwame Nkrumah na wengine wengi, kusema kweli tumepoteza an intelligent prof, father and a mentor, may allah put his soul to rest he has inspired most of us who passed through his mentor. There was no question I asked him about political issues in this world na akakosa jibu he was always ready to listen and give, you will really be missed. It is really sad.

  23. Inna lilah wainna ilaihi raji'un.The very shocking news of the death of this prominent figure (Prof Haroub) has not only left me speechless but also devastated.I just couldn't believe when the news came through.
Having attended one of his lectures at Nkrumah Hall at the UDSM you would wish all the Pros to snap at his heels. He was loved by everyone or more precisely he was the student's choice and the UDSM community at large.
Disappointingly however, he's gone.No words to say, but it's really devastating.
Rest in peace Prof HAroub Othman.
    We will miss you endlessly.
