Dear All;

I would like to inform you that the Tanzania Community Association of Nothern Alberta(TANA), Canada, in collaboration with the University of Alberta (UoA) International Center, UoA Middle East & African Studies Program and the UoA Department of Political Science will be holding a commemoration event in memory of Julius Kambarage Nyerere (Mwalimu), the first president of the United Republic of Tanzania, on October 14th, 2009 at the UoA International Center

Dr. Nyerere passed away on October 14th, 1999 and therefore October 14th, 2009 will mark 10 years of his passing.

The objective of this event is to educate people on the Legacy of Mwalimu and the work he was involved in during his life and that has been continued by different organizations after his life. We hope the event will inspire the young and provide a good knowledge about great Africans to the Edmonton community and elsewhere. A number of renowned scholars will write and present papers on the topics below followed by a plenary discussion on these and other topics on Mwalimu's works and life. We also have a panelist group composed of scholars from different backgrounds and different parts of the world. You will all be invited to take part in the plenary discussion. We believe Tanzanians understand Mwalimu better that people from other parts of the world and thus we expect a full participation in the discussion from Tanzanians.
The topics for papers and discussion are:
