Dear Wadau,
I fully give assent to Gerry’s opinion as I stick with John Mashaka’s perspective. I was kind of flabbergasted when I read arguments from this anonymous blogger from the EU.I believe this guy implies scare tactics to affright the public. It is ridiculous to support his evidence by offering examples of DRC and Eritrea.
I am sure he is aware that conflicts in those mentioned countries have been there forever. I completely reject the idea that these countries are in ethnic conflicts due to Diaspora. This is totally absurd. I suggest that he should come up with concrete evidences not abstractions ones. There is good number of foreigners living in Tanzania, some of them we don’t know exactly what are they up to; apparently some of them are illegal aliens.
What is a big a deal to grant your own people citizenship? Holding a foreign passport does not make one treacherous. It is comprehensible; folks obtain these passports to make a living.
The time is now. Let’s not treat our fellow citizens as future terrorists, we are all Tanzanians we love our country dearly. Why should we imply sanctions to our own people? I am confident that our National Legislature will remedy this problem.

Dual Citizenship
Wadau let’s view this issue in our own perspectives, to figure out weather is it a right time and worth it to grant a dual citizenship to our brothers and sisters. Personally, I would like to talk about just one thing.
Let’s talk about the issue of children o f Tanzanian born outside of the country. Are we going to deny them the rights and privileges of their parents? What about those children who wish to follow their parent’s native citizenship, but at the same time honour the nation of their own birth? Are we going to force them to make the choice or grant the dual citizenship?
Wadau, we must be remembered that these children, born in developed countries, have the opportunity and benefits of free and better education. In years to come, we will have many second and third generations Tanzanians educated with professional expertise and skills. These children will have the exposure and knowledge required for our economic development.
Ladies and gentlemen, let us view the dual citizenship in terms of social economic development and not otherwise. It is imperative and our moral responsibility to look at this issue on both sides of the coin, for the future generation. Dual citizenship will help these children to reconnect, travel freely in and out and to share their open mindedness with their fellow nationals with the sense of true belonging.
In my opinion, there is no empirical evidence to suggest that allowing Tanzanian nationals to acquire a second citizenship will jeopardise the country’s national security or welfare. Some are only opposed to the matter based on a fear that the Tanzanian presently residing in the Diaspora will come back to compete for the political office.

DUAL CITIZENSHIP IS GRANTED TO ALL CHILDREN BORN OF TANZANIAN PARENTS UP TO AGE 18. MY CHILDREN WERE BORN IN USA WHEN I BROUGHT THEM HOME I WAS INFORMED THIS BY AN IMMIGRATION OFFICE AT THE AIRPORT AND I FOLLOWED UP ON IT AND OBTAINED THEIR DUAL CITIZENSHIP. THE QUESTION IS WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL WITH GRANTING THIS FOR ALL? AS I SEE IT ITS IS MORE BENEFICIAL TO OUR COUNTRY SINCE WE WILL BE ABLE TO FREELY INVEST IN BOTH COUNTRIES AND NOT ABANDON ONE OVER THE OTHER.
ReplyDeleteAcheni utoto.

ReplyDeleteThe world is changing, we must change with it. It is time for dual citizenship, we need to stop bickering as we will not get anything constructive!

Your Passport gives you a sense of belonging.
ReplyDeleteIt acknowledge your membership of a certain community and grant you access to all the benefits enjoyed by other members.
As per international laws, anybody can join membership of any community as long as they satisfy the entry criteria set. Once a member, that community will acknowledge your membership by granting an identity (passport)
Now, If an individual, for whatever reasons, (birth or otherwise) wish to be members of a certain community, so should they!!! AND their membership SHOULD BE ACKNOWLEDGE THERE.
HAVING DUAL CITIZENSHIP ACKNOWLEDGE THE INDIVIDUAL'S MEMBERSHIP IN BOTH COMMUNITIES; WHILE YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO BE A MEMBER OF EITHER COMMUNITY, YOU CAN ONLY BELONG TO ONE AT A TIME.
IF ONE FEEL THIS COMMUNITY ISN`T GOOD ENOUGH FOR THEM, WHY WOULD THEY WANNA BE COUNTED THERE?
LIKEWISE, IF ONE FEEL THEY HAVE A RIGHT TO BELONG TO THIS COMMUNITY, SO SHOULD THEY COME AND GET COUNTED HERE!!!
BUT NOT BOTH!!!!
Tanzania should welcome returning citizens! Yes they do benefit the country in many ways, BUT, If a Tanzanian is a citizen of another country and still hold that dearly, Tanzania should not acknowledge them as its members.
Dual citizenship creates an unfair advantage in the community in terms of access to benefits enjoyed by members. Holders will gain access to these benefits in both communities exploiting what would have been the sole right of the loyal members.
SO, ''UNLESS ONE GIVE UP THEIR CURRENT CITIZENSHIP, THEY ARE NOT READY TO BE TANZANIANS''
