The United Nation Population Fund Representative in Tanzania Dr. Julitta Onabanjo said the commemoration of Mandela International day is an opportunity to recognize madiba’s dedication to the service of humanity across many field.
Speaking to the commemoration yesterday Dr .Onabanjo said Nelson Mandela’s accomplishments came a great personal cost to himself and his family and he sacrifice his life to serve the life of his people and Africa in general.
Dr. Onabanjo highlight that Nelson Mandela made the world a better place for all people everywhere and thanking him for everything he has done for freedom, justice and democracy.
She said during his Presidency Mandela established the National Youth Commission in South Africa to safeguard the aspiration of the young People and assisting the Government in evolving policies that were sensitive to their needs and aspiration.
“Nelson Mandela is a towering figure, he embodies the highest values of humanity and of the United Nations, his life strength and his decency are examples to us all, he fought his oppressors for years and forgive them” She said.
She said Mandela is such an inspiration to millions because he was not backed by money or power and he is ordinary man that is why he has achieved extraordinary things.
Dr. Onabanjo highlights that during the liberations movements in 50s/60s the struggles were led by young Africans the likes of Nelson Mandela who were honoring today, Baba wa Taifa Mwalimu Julias Nyerere, Kwame Nkurumar, Oliver Thambo and others.
In November last year, the UN declare July 18th Nelson Mandela International Day to honor his Contribution to the culture of peace and freedom.

While other African leaders are busy mistreating their own citizens, whilst African leaders are busy incarcerating their own people and denying them basic democratic rights, Mandela remains a towering example.

1. Anatoka nchi tajiri, ambayo ina mvuto mkubwa kibiashara kimataifa kuliko nchi anayotoka Nyerere. Busara ya maskini hainaga thamani.
2. Alisamehe wazungu, na kuacha waendelee kupeta. Nyerere alikuwa na msimamo mkali dhidi ya waliokuwa wanatunyonya, na alitaifisha mali zao.
