US Ambassador, Alfonso E. Lenhardt met on January 7 with Jim Owens, a survivor of the 1998 Embassy bombing in Dar es Salaam, and organizer of an upcoming June 2011 expedition to retrace the historic route taken by Henry Stanley in 1871 during his famous search for Dr. Livingstone. Ambassador Lenhardt presented Mr. Owens with the Embassy's Coin for Excellence in recognition of his patriotism and humanitarian engagement with the people of Tanzania. Mr. Owens' humanitarian work in Tanzania includes provision of school scholarships for children of Tanzanian victims of the 1998 bombing, and rehabilitation of schools throughout the country.
