Dar fashion festival 2011 underway to promote fashion as a business sector

A week- long event aimed at empowering Tanzanian woman entrepreneurs in the fashion industry, dubbed THE DAR FASHION FESTIVAL 2011, is in the offing.

One of the co-founders and event organiser, Ms Lucy Kimei  told Globu ya Jamii  in  Dar es Salaam that the event  has all the frills to being a unique opportunity for women in the fashion business to network, learn, sell and reach new heights.

  “The event will involve a series of activities starting with the Women Empowered in Business Summit (WEBS) on June 19th, 2011; followed by a networking evening entitled Women’s Worth on June 23rd, 2011; and culminating with  Dar’s first ever shopping event “Dar es salaam Fashion  Shopping” on June 25th to 26th, 2011,” Ms Kimei said.

According to Ms. Kimei, DFF Shopping, to be held at ‘The Green’ on Kenyatta Drive, Oysterbay, is expected to attract over 1,000 people from all over the city. 

We chose “The Green” to make the best use of Dar’s beautiful open spaces that need to be promoted and well utilized, she said.
