Statement attributable to the Spokesperson for the 
UN Secretary-General on the Zanzibar, Tanzania ferry disaster

            The Secretary-General is profoundly saddened by the tragic loss of life after a ferry capsized off the coast of Zanzibar, United Republic of Tanzania, on 10 September. He expresses his condolences to the Government and people of the United Republic of Tanzania and Zanzibar and the families of the victims. He also wishes a speedy recovery to the people who survived the accident. The United Nations stands together with the people of Tanzania at this tragic moment.
