ReplyDeleteI would like to respectfully correct English used on the website. I know people will say "the message is understod" but the fact is that it's quite embarrassing to use wrong grammar in an official website of our government.
ReplyDelete"Dear our Website Visitor" is wrong grammar. When we want to greet people, they should have said " Dear Visitor" or "Our Dear Website Visitor". The error was translating directly from Swahili into English, like many people tend to do in Tanzania. It is OK at home but unacceptable in foreign countries.
hiyo "Dear our Website Visitor" hata mimi na english yangu ya kanumba nimeishitukia !lol
ReplyDeleteTanzania ni zaidi ya hao wanyama hapo juu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with the previous anonymous contributors' critical observation on the English language usage on the bulletin. Poor grammar, long winded and henceforth meaningless sentences, are glaringly used.
ReplyDeleteIt is embarrassing that this is an official embassy bulletin.
Why do we care so much about showing our academic titles in Tanzania, especially in our Press?
ReplyDeleteIt is not necessary Ambassador Kijazi to inform the public that you are also an Engineer. You earned that title but showing it off on the official website of a government is just not professionally done.
Bill and Hillary Clinton both have Honorary Degrees and advance degrees in law (J.D), Chancellor Angela Markel of Germany is a Professor, but you will never see them in their newspapers being referred to as DACTA President so and so or Ambassador Engineer so and so like you see in our newspapers do you? Look at their official websites, you will not see their academic titles either.
We refer to our politicians who USED to be ambassadors even after they leave their positions.
Just my thoughts.
