Bro Misupu, Eid el fitr  pamoja na wadau wote wa blog ya jamii. thank you for giving us platform to air our constructive opinions. This is more than a blog, it is very informative and a place to call home for news. First of all, I must compliment our brother Mr. John Mashaka for his learned, and  analytical assessment of our economic future. Mashaka is very polarizing among the Diaspora and Tanzania intellectuals, because of his rhetoric. I am not questioning his abilities; I am only asking him to change his style. He should write more in Kiswahili to reach bigger audience and for his writings to have impact.

Back to our subject, Ustaadh Mashaka has spoken very timely on a very touchy and critical subject to our economic prosperity. I think we need to review our immigration laws. A few months ago, I flew from Dubai to Dar, and half of the cabin had young men aged 19-30 of Asian descend coming to Dar. When we arrived in Dar, they all had big bags full of merchandize to sell, and for those who grew in the 60's Chinese could also be seen temporarily on mega projects.

Kenyans seems to be following the American immigration path Honorable Mashaka has spoken about. They are recruiting and encouraging their Diaspora to return home because they need people that will contribute to their economic progress by imparting the needed skills and those that will create employment opportunities for Kenyans. Kenya Immigration has moved to restrict its work permit issuance, and its citizens are protesting the existence of Chinese. Permission to work will be given only to those foreigners over the age of 35 making more than $24,000 annually

The Kenya policy will likely to tame the influx of low-wage Asian immigrants whose number is swelling by the day and spreading deeper into the countryside. The growing nuance of foreign hawkers has no economic merit to the Kenyan economy; it is rather, causing strain on Kenya’s social services, and greatly contributing to unemployment. Work permits will therefore, be issued for positions that cannot be filled by Kenyans. Kenya education is compulsory, if you don’t take children to school, you go to jail. At home, our children are selling karanga at bus stops

Our government is sleeping at the steering wheel. The country is on auto pilot, because I don’t understand why there is no economic vision everything for us is done from the EU, DANIDA, and USAID.etc. We are independent nation and need to step up our efforts to make this country prosper.
The most important thing of all which Mashaka said was development of human capital. This is very important. No country can develop without human capital. If we don’t develop our human capital, when all the mines are empty, we will remain empty as well.

Changamoto: Mr. Mashaka if you are in Tanzania, you need to translate your articles in Kiswahili so majority can read them. Work with domestics companies to sponsor you in giving public lectures to enlighten the public on benefits of educating their children. I know your tribe “Wahaya or Nshomile” love education. Start training and lectures from your village using kiswahili. Because no Tanzanian company can be allowed to dig gold in China.

I stand to be corrected.

  1. Hey Sossy, i would wanted to get into argument with regards to migration laws! You have talked about Tanzania not having economic vision, please allow me to enrich your knowledge on this regard. Tanzania has Vision 2025 which aimed at taking this country to middle income country when we reach 2025 (please just google tanzania vision 2025) you will get all there is to get. furthermore, we have long term perspective plan of 15 years this again aims at reaching the said vision. to narrow it down, the long perspective plan will be achieved through short development plans of 5 years span. I would like to inform you that we are embarking on the 1st 5 years development plan of 2012/13 to 2015/16 whereby some specific sectors have been prioritized and selected, there after we will have 2016/17 to 2019/20 and 2020/20 to 2025/26 plans respectively. in each five year development plans we will have annual plans which will be even more specific to certain prioritized projects and programmes. May be we should start from these economic vision and try to see if what has been put in there if at all will take us where we want to go.

Its my hope that i have enlightened some few facts which were probably missed by you with regards to Tanzania

Kuzuia wageni haitaifanya Tanzania tajiri.

  11. Again, our educational system has failed another Tanzanian, Sossy, in teaching him proper English and current world economic trends. In my opinion, Sossy's way of thinking is typical of our old politicians who are afraid to make changes and cling to past nationalistic policies for their own personal gain.

I would like first to pont out that China allows anybody to do business there. China is a member of World Trade Organization. If foreigners are not allowed to mine there, then China would have been denied access to foreign markets or get fined by WTO. Sossy proved his ignorance of world business economics by not knowing this fact.

Second, though many people might feel that Tanzania is the next South Africa because we have unlimited resources, this is again wrongly assumed due to ignorance or lack of proper information available to the public.

Tanzanian economy is small and Tanzanians remain one of the poorest in the world. Tanzanians might have gold, diamonds and other resources, but unless we are able to sell cars and other high technology materials to the world, we will still be poor. Botswana and South Africa have much more diamond and gold than us, yet most people there are still poor. People have to have good education and good leadership for the country to move forward. Our transportation network, business laws and high corruption make it an impossible task to try to develop an economy.

We talk for the last 20 years about reforms in our country but things still remain more or less the same. We still have shortage of electricity, dirty water, lack of housing, bad roads, high crime rates, high corruption, bad education and ignorance of the world economics. We live in a cave where we think every foreigner who comes to Tanzania wants to steal from us, but at the same time, we go to their countries and try to live illegaly and claiming fake refugee status. It is estimated at least 40% of Tanzanians in the UK and Canada claimed fake refugee status between 1985-2005. (The Economist, March 14th 2007).

I would argue that we should not restrict people to come to Tanzania. Foreigners will bring capital however small, and they will provide employment and taxes. Mexico, Philippines and Indonesia sends more than a billion dollars a year to their respective countries from the Middle East and America. Most of the workers are low income earners. We can learn something from these countries and hopefully open our nationalistic eyes and stop seeing foreigners as enemies but friends of the economy.
We should thank them for choosing to invest in a country which in which any economist will surely not recoommend due to lack of facilities, modern education, bad infrastructures and high corruption.

I am not optimistic at all about the future of our country because I do not see any positive changes I can say they will benefit my children in the future. Everywhere around me, I am bombarded with company billboards who either wants me to get drunk or use my cellphone cheaply, hardly a healthy behaviour.

Lastly, I would advice Sossy to do his research before he choose a country to live in Europe. Spain has one of the highest unemployment rates in the EU and most of the Spaniards are ehading to Germany, Canada and other countries to look for work. The government is broke and their education system is crumbling. Better come back home and help your Motherland.
