The Indoor Sports Cricket League came to a close on Wednesday 2nd of October with the Tigo Development Side being declared the League’s top team. The indoor cricket side beat out three other teams to take the top honours for the first ever time in the League’s 3 year history. At the awards ceremony held at the Indoor Sports Arena at Funky’s in Masaki, the ‘Player of the League’ award went to Kassim Nassoro who also plays for the Tigo Development Side.

“It gives us great pride to have been able to award the Tigo Tanzanian Development side top honours for the 2013 season. It is the cherry on top of what has been a terrific Indoor Sports League. In this season we were able to encourage even more young Tanzanians to play indoor cricket, we even had enough players to field a women’s and a men’s cricket team,” said Ulric Charteris Founder and Group CCO The Works. “One of the reasons for opening the facility was to nurture the sport of indoor cricket in Tanzania, and the growth displayed by Kassim Nassoro in this season signals a bright future for the sport in Tanzania.”

The Indoor Sports Arena was created as an all-weather multi discipline sporting facility where sport such as soccer, net ball and even indoor cricket could be played. The facility is jointly owned by Tanzania’s leading eventing and production company The Works who were able to facilitate generous sponsorship from companies that include Coral Beach, Continental, TBL, Tigo, Sandvik, Warrior Security, Unitrans, Savanna, Castle and BMTL. This sponsorship went towards establishing an indoor cricket league and helping develop indoor cricket in Tanzania.

The Indoor Sports League has 14 teams playing in three levels, the Test League which is the 1st Division league; the One Day League is the 2nd division league followed by the T20 League which is a social league. Through the support of sponsors two out of the three leagues were able to feature Tanzanian teams. The sporting fixtures are scheduled between 6PM and 9PM so as not to interfere with the working day and bringing together more of Dar es Salaam’s sporting enthusiasts.

“Eventing is a high pressure industry and sport is one way of letting off steam after a long day at the office. For The Works being able to share the enjoyment of the Indoor Sports Arena with our community was reward enough. Going the extra mile and helping develop a sporting discipline in Tanzania such as indoor cricket, compliments our professional attitude and commitment in our daily business. The Works is a creative company that strives to proactively build an authentically Tanzanian legacy,” said The Work’s CEO Denise Rosiello

The 2013 Indoor Sports Cricket League has officially come to an end, the next season will being in a matter of weeks where it is hoped there will be increased interest from Tanzanian players in joining the growing sport.
The Works founder and COO - Ulric Chateris congradulates Player of the League - Kassim Nassoro.
