Pursuant to our call for the right of dual citizenship for all Tanzanians, the Tanzanian Communities in the United States of America and the Diaspora Council of Tanzanians in America (DICOTA) have agreed to file a petition for this cause to the Constitutional Review Parliament that is now taking place in Dodoma, Tanzania through our Representative Honorable Kadari Singo, who is also a member of the our Diaspora Community and who resides in California. With the highest honor, we invite you to support this petition.
Honorable Kadari Singo is now attending the Constitutional Review Parliament in Dodoma. After consultation with other members of the Parliament and in seeking their support, and after thorough deliberations on how to bring the issue of dual citizenship to the attention of all members of the above-mentioned Parliament, it was decided that a workshop, training or conference should be arranged to lobby to the members of the Parliament and inform them of the necessity and urgency of their supportive votes when the motion of dual citizenship will be tabled.
For that conference, we will need experts on this issue from other parts of Tanzania and abroad (including International Office for Migration - IOM) to attend at a very short notice. We will also need an excellent venue and some refreshments. Moreover, the experts on this issue will need to be paid. Hence, we are looking for at least $25,000 dollars to cover expenses for this event. The plan is to run a workshop/seminar for 3 days targeting different groups of MPs for each day.
We are certain that if the members of the parliament are made to understand our motion, it will be easier for them to vote for dual citizenship. Dual citizenship is an important right that has been denied to Tanzanians since 1964. Thus, we hope that the workshop or conference will provide the members of the Parliament with an opportunity to understand the overall benefits of dual citizenship and why their votes for this cause are imperative. Moreover, we invite you to think about your interests, family and opportunities offered by dual citizenship.

25000 dollars is too much for something people should grasp without lobbying. The Parliamentarians are too focused on their political affiliation to actually heed to any act of lobbying for dual citizenship. one should go ahead but I think that much money will find better use in buying medical equipment for the poorly equipped hospitals.

The Embassy of the United Republic of Tanzania in Stockholm has received a letter of request from the Law Reform Commission of Tanzania (LRCT). LRCT is in the process of reviewing Tanzania’s Citizenship Law with a view of making a consideration on the possibility of recognising dual citizenship.
Tanzanians and those who have acquired citizenship of other countries but originally were Tanzanian citizens, are requested to participate in this review by giving their opinion on whether Tanzania should retain single citizenship or adopt dual citizenship. again I would like to give you the latest updates of our efforts pursuing the adoption of the Dual citizenship for Tanzanians by amending it on the Citizenship Act, Act No.6 of 1995.
If you are not aware the Law reform commission of Tanzania has completed its honorable work and now they are preparing the final draft recommending the adoption of dual citizenship to be presented to the government in order to be introduced as a bill hopefully during the upcoming Bunge session.
This is great news and our efforts are paying off. Lets not let our guard down we can only celebrate once this is passed and adopted.
First of all I would like to thank the Law reform commission for taking the time and efforts to conduct this study and come with the recommendation in a timely fashion. I would like to personally thank on behalf of all of us who signed this petition, the Chairman of Law reform Commission, Hon. Justice Anthony Bahati, Hon. William J. M. Mdundo (Law reform Commissioner) and all the full time and Part time Law reform Commissioners.
I would like to thank Sunday Citizen Newspaper editor and the entire staff, who have helped us in so many ways, I would say this is the only newspaper in Tanzania who has been pressing this matter to officials as well as informing and educating its readers about dual citizenship.
Also I would like to thank everyone who has in one way or another help in pushing this issue for dual citizenship for Tanzanians.
When we started this discussion there were some who never believed that our dreams may one day come true, we are getting closer but yet we have still long way to go. So I will urge everyone who have contributed to these efforts in any capacity to keep pressing on this matter,
Actually now more than ever before we need more support to keep this debate on dual citizenship on the front burner so that can be adopted before the end of this upcoming bunge session. If you all remember his excellency President Mkapa on his visit to United States he promised he would take the recommendation from the study conducted by Law Reform Commission before the en of his term, which we have tried to remind him on several Open letters we wrote to different newspapers and several were published by Sunday Citizen newspaper.

So please I urge everyone to do whatever they can on their capacity to gather more signatures, participate on discussion writing letters to newspapers etc to keep this debate on the front burner.

These people are too crazy and they show how ignorant are they. They think all Tanzanians are just stupid they can come and say what they want and get what they want. Do ignorant people know they are ignorant?
ReplyDelete"The right" Whose right they are talking about? They need to be polite and explain to people what Tanzania and Tanzanians in general will benefit by adopting this system and not to use their ignorant language.
They are no longer Tanzanian citizens. They forego that right when they chose to be the citizens of other countries. They can't just come and say they are petition to have their rights back or whatsoever. They no longer have that right.
Yes, they are of Tanzanian original or nationality but they are no longer Tanzanian citizen a big difference and if they don't know that they sure need to go back to school.
And they are coming to lobby with no money for workshops, materials etc. Listening to that telephone call audio from Dodoma with their representative it shows how less or none they prepared. They didn't even prepare any materials to pass around to regular citizens or MPs to read more about the pros of having the dual system. They think this issue is just too easy and simple just because "they want", "their right"...
And I think the petition they are passing around will work more if they beg Tanzanians (their relatives, friends or just regular citizens) to sign it rather than themselves. Yes they can reach the certain number of signatures required but how about persuading regular citizens here in Tanzania. Their signatures are nothing if they don't seek to go with regular citizen on their side. The parliament will sit down and listen but if many people don't know much about that their effort is worthless.
It will not work out.

Raia wa nchi za Ughaibuni wamekula kiapo kuwa watatumikia hizo nchi zao kwa lolote lile watakaloamriwa na hizo nchi zao. Ni rahisi watu kama hawa kutumika kuja kutuhujumu. Pilini rahisi kumtumikia bwana anayekupa maisha mazuri kuliko asiyekupa kitu. Pia hawa watu wenye uraia wa ughaibuni wanatumika sana katika kuangamiza Watanzania wasio na uraia wa ughaibuni ambao wanaishi katika hizo nchi.
