Following the launch of SADC Electoral Observer Mission (SEOM), to the Republic of Malawi by the Head of SEOM Honourable Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Namibia, on the 10 May 2014, the mission has deployed observers throughout the country to observe the 2014 Tripartite Elections, scheduled to take place on 20th May 2014.
The following 8 SADC Member States have sent a total of 132 observers Angola, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Observers from two more member states are expected.
Observers have undergone a two day training course from 8-9 May 2014.
The SEOM is deployed in Malawi in accordance with the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections.
Special Advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Tuliameni Kalomoh, is heading the mission on behalf of Honourable Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
The SADC Organ Troika on Politics Defence and Security Cooperation, which amongst others, is mandated with leading the SADC election observer mission, currently consists of The Republic of Namibian, The Kingdom of Lesotho and the United Republic of Tanzania.
