SWAHILI ALLY – traditional / afrofusion – 21.00
Swahili Ally is a talented Tanzanian singer and songwriter whose talent first appeared in primary school. He was born in 1989 in Tanga region where he grew up in a musical family. He sings in the Digo language mixed with Swahili. The vibrant performance, which fuses Tanzanian traditional music with a unique contemporary edge, delivers a memorable performance and powerful message to audiences every time.
ASHIMBA – Unplugged – afrofusion / traditional – 22.15
Ashimba is one of Tanzania´s most talented singer songwriters. He has a passion for intricate and complex compositions. His sound borrows from the West African griot traditions fused with his own unique style of playing guitar coupled with Swahili, and Sukuma compositions. He has toured in Europe several times and has recently figured in the European World Music Charts.
MZUNGU KICHAA – world / reggae – 23.00
Mzungu Kichaa has not performed at THE BEAT for a while. He will perform a launch concert for his new EP Relax, which will be available in physical format at the venue. The first single “Relax Your Mind” has already made it to number one of the World Music Charts on ethnocloud. The recordings represent his first recordings that he has recorded in the studio with his Tanzanian band Bongo Beat.
ABOUT THE BEAT
The Beat is a monthly festival that takes place on the first Friday of the month, showcasing the best live music from Tanzania and abroad. The festival is hosted by Mzungu Kichaa and is powered by: Caravan Records, Triniti, and Goethe Institut Tanzania.
