LIES....NO FREEDOM OF MEDIA, NO FREEDOM EVEN FOR DEMONSTRATION...HAVING LARGE NUMBERS OF MEDIA IS NOT AN INDICATION THAT THERE IS FREEDOM WE HAVE WITNESSED FEWS MEDIA CONFRONTED GOVERMENT AGENTS JUST BECAUSE THEY CHOOSE BE FAIR OR BIND TO THEIR ETHICS, HOW MANY JOURNALIST DIED?? HOW MANY INJURED?? HOW MANY CASES STILL NOT RULED OUT IN THE COURT?? SO SAD TO HEAR THIS...I CHALLENGE THIS BLOG TO PRINT THIS FAIR COMMENT ......
ReplyDeleteAlongside the right to assemble peacefully, holding peaceful demonstrations is a human right. The role of the police is to provide protection, so that such demonstrators can exercise their right.
ReplyDeleteIn Tanzania, it seems to me, the police have assumed, unjustly, the prerogative of issuing or denying permission for demonstrations, and they often forbid--for dubious reasons--demonstrations planned by opposition parties. To put it mildly, this casts the police in a negative light and does not help the reputation of our country.
It is important for the police to not only do what is right, but to be seen as doing so.
