Football clubs in Tanzania are being offered the opportunity to visit Sunderland as part of the club’s partnership with Acacia Mining.

The unique partnership with Acacia is the club’s first ever football partnership and sees SAFC work with local schools and football clubs in the Kahama and Tarime districts of North West Tanzania, working to deliver Acacia’s Maendeleo Fund dedicated CSR programmes.

A selection of nine local football teams from these areas have been selected to participate in a unique competition that will see representatives from their club visit Sunderland and partake in a week-long knowledge sharing tour, which includes attending a match at the Stadium of Light alongside visiting the club’s state-of-the-art Academy of Light.
Sunderland AFC’s Head of International Football Development, Graham Robinson, has been working with the local football teams in Tanzania this past week as the club continues its commitment to help improve football in the community.

As part of the club’s visit, Graham has spent time with local team, Kakola Sports Club at Bugarama School, supporting the club on all aspects of its football operations from training schedules to creating business plans.

Graham said: “The overall aim of the competition is to help the different clubs create a more sustainable environment for its players and staff by creating a plan that not only benefits the club’s performance on the pitch but also the business side off it.”

Alongside supporting Kakola Sports Club off-field activities, Graham also delivered a number of training sessions with the club’s coaching staff, which was watched enthusiastically by over 200 adults and children from nearby villages.

This was followed by taking in a friendly game between the club and local rivals Home Boys in which Graham was guest of honour.

Graham will also be working with Bugarama FC, Ilogi Yossi FC and Stand United in the coming days as the club continues its operations in Tanzania.
