PM-MAJALIWA LAUDS NBC BANK FOR SUPPORT TO MATERNAL HEALTH IN TANZANIA

·         Prime Minister Majaliwa was the GOH for the third edition of the NBC Dodoma Marathon.

·         The Marathon attracted more than 4,000 participants from 8 different countries.

·         The main objective is to raise funds to support the fight against cervical cancer awareness and midwifery scholarships in Tanzania

·         More than 300 million were raised to support the course

·         In the last two years, more than 500 million were raised, facilitating the screening of more than 23,000 women; 1300 were diagnosed and are currently undergoing treatment.

Dodoma, Monday, July 23,  2023. Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa lauded NBC Bank for organizing a fundraising Marathon, the “NBC Dodoma Marathon,” to support the fight against cervical cancer and provision of midwifery scholarships in Tanzania. Speaking at the marathon event in Dodoma yesterday, Prime Minister Majaliwa said that the Government appreciates the drive by the private sector to join hands in finding solutions to challenges facing society.

“The government acknowledges the noble social citizenship work carried by NBC Bank over the years. We appreciate the innovation of partnering with Ocean Road Cancer Institute, Benjamin Mkapa Foundation, and the Tanzania Athletic Association to develop this marathon geared towards raising funds to support the maternal health initiatives in Tanzania. The government supports all endeavors to save the lives of mother and child,” he said.

On his part, NBC Bank Managing Director Theobald Sabi said the Bank is pleased to organize another episode of the NBC Bank Dodoma Marathon after four successful stints. “After four successful editions of the Marathon here in Dodoma, we are pleased to organize the fifth edition. All the money raised today, TZ500 million, will be channeled to Ocean Road Cancer Institute to support women's fight against cervical cancer and Benjamin Mkapa Foundation to provide scholarships to midwives’ scholars in Tanzania. I am pleased to announce that in the last three years, the Marathon raised more than TZS500 million, which helped screen more than 23000 women, 1300 of whom were diagnosed with cancer and are currently undergoing treatments. I am grateful for all the support from all the corners of the continent, with people joining us in this noble course.
