"Tanzania continues to stand as a reference point for peace and social cohesion in Africa and the world."
These were the words of the United Nations Secretary-General, H.E. António Guterres, today upon receiving a Special Envoy carrying a message from the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.
The message was delivered by the Special Envoy, H.E. Ambassador Mahmoud Kombo, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, who led the Tanzanian delegation to the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Secretary-General Guterres noted that Tanzania’s reputation as an icon of peace was tested during the General Elections held on 29 October 2025, and acknowledged the country’s resilience in maintaining national unity and stability.
He expressed the United Nations’ strong interest in seeing Tanzania continue to remain united and serve as a positive example.
The UN Secretary-General emphasized the importance of a meaningful and inclusive national dialogue aimed at addressing the root causes of the violent incidents that occurred on 29 October 2025, and at putting in place measures to prevent their recurrence.
He also reaffirmed the United Nations’ full support to Tanzania’s ongoing efforts, including support during and after the completion of the mandate of the Commission of Inquiry established in the United Republic of Tanzania.
