WALTER MAKUNDI, A TANZANIAN LIVING IN SINGAPORE, MEETS VISITING SENIOR GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS FROM SEVERAL AFRICAN COUNTRIES

 

 

Mr Walter Makundi (in blue shirt), a Tanzanian Civil and Structural Engineer who has lived in Singapore with his family since 1994, has described his recent meeting with senior government officials from several African countries as a great honour.

The engagement, organised by the Chandler Academy of Governance, brought together delegates from Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Mauritius, Malawi, Somalia, Zambia, Tanzania and South Africa.

“I am sincerely grateful to the Chandler Academy of Governance for allowing me to share my personal reflections on Singapore’s remarkable transformation,” Mr Makundi said.

He noted that during his more than three decades in Singapore, he had witnessed first-hand how visionary leadership, long-term planning, strong institutions and disciplined implementation had helped transform the country into one of the world’s most advanced and prosperous nations.

“It was a privilege to exchange ideas with such distinguished government leaders and to reflect on lessons that may be useful to African countries,” he said.

Mr Makundi expressed hope that Singapore’s development journey would continue to inspire African nations as they pursue sustainable growth, modern infrastructure, stronger institutions and improved governance.

He thanked the Chandler Academy of Governance and all participating delegates for the thoughtful discussions, warm fellowship and memorable experience.

The Chandler Governance Group (CGG) is an international non-profit organisation headquartered in Singapore. It works with governments to build capabilities through training, hands-on projects, partnerships, and knowledge creation and sharing.

CGG founder Richard F. Chandler established CGG in 2019 as the Chandler Institute of Governance (CIG), with the support of a group of seasoned former government leaders from several countries. He saw the value of an independent institute that would work with governments in highly practical ways. We are a practitioner-focused organisation, focusing on the “how” rather than just the “what” and “why”.

The Chandler Academy of Governance (CAG) is the Learning and Development division of CGG. We design and deliver training programmes for public sector leaders, equipping them with the skills to deliver high-performance government, with its signature programmes anchored in proprietary curriculum, practitioner-focused, and contextualised to local needs. 

It utilises a range of teaching techniques, including seminars, expert-led discussions, and site visits. We also work with clients to design customised programmes for public servants, tailored to the country context, objectives, and participant profiles.
