A renovated health facility for treatment of HIV/AIDS was opened at Ukonga Prisons in Dar es Salaam Friday, November 6, in the presence of senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Tanzania’s Police Force, Prisons Service and Immigration Department.
The American people provided Tsh 119 million for renovation of the facilities Ukonga Prisons the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Tanzania.
This investment is based on a belief that the HIV/AIDS epidemic can be stopped and that all Tanzanians deserve quality health care.

Eighty percent (80%) of patients at Police and Prisons health facilities are civilians meaning that tens of thousands of Tanzanian citizens living adjacent to these facilities are receiving improved healthcare and education, especially as it relates to HIV and AIDS.
