floods causing havoc in Kilosa

By Diaspora writer

It is unfortunately , that at the time in the world again in the the western hemisphere and the southern hemisphere. A disaster happened and the rich people of the world are trying to out do each other in bringing proclaimed heroes and philanthropists .

While the world eyes are glued on their Tv sets watching the tragedy unravel before their eyes in Haiti, in Tanzania we are crying our own version of Haiti in a small part of Tanzania , a place called Kilosa .

In both cases lots of property and in lives were lost according to The Kilosa district executive director, Mr Efrem Kalimalwendo.Mr Kalimalwendo said it was not only Kilosa town that had been affected by the floods, as the small town of Kimamba has also been hit hard.
Mkondoa river has burst its banks and water from the river which has changed its course is ravaging Kilosa town and neighbouring villages.I hear that even the new school term was delayed in parts of the region simpy because lots of displaced are living in schools buildings. SOS CHILDREN VILLAGES estimates that around around 28, 000 families have been directly affected.

The difference between Haiti and Kilosa is that the children of Haiti and its friends in the Diaspora have come together to support the country during this hour of need. Did you know that simon Cowell of X factor is organising a Haiti charity song featuring Leona Lewis , Cheryll Cole , Lady Gaga, Boyance , Robbiee William and above all Wycleaf Jean who is originally from Haiti.
In Tanzania , we have big stars, Bands and celebrities like Twanga pepeta, Kanumba ,Lady Jay dee, Ali kiba , Banana Zorro, Fresh Jumbe (I am told he has a live concert in Dar tonight) and so on .Where are they ? Where is their contribution? Cant these guys put their heads together and come up with something? Why not organise a gig or concert to raise money for the displaced in Kilosa? What are they fearing ? Is it the money or logistics or budget?

They have nothing to loose because all they have to do is to make a record which will cost them next to nothing .It costs them nothing because we the public will buy it any way! What we are asking is for them to donate their popularity, fame, time, talent and names and find a place to hold this concert.

Surely Globu ya jamii can help with Matangazo and we will be there!
Let them leave the rest to us to buy the record.

I hear that my music Icon Ali kiba is in the Uk ;Wouldn’t it be a good idea to dedicate one of his shows to the victims in Kilosa?. Surely £1000 dollars could make a great difference.

Lastly, I have nothing against our stars. I actually applaud them for the great cultural contribution they are making to the society. Personally , its Tanzania music that keeps me going when im carrying my Boxes here especially this winter time. My Ipod is only loaded with Bongo Flava.

Tanzania is a revolutionary country , but a true revolution is the revolution of the Human being , for the most important duty that we have is to translate ourselves into a well organised tool able to provide justice and goodness that will light the surrounding darkness.

  2. I get your point, and you do have a valid point, but the problem is not how or who should raise the money we can do that in a flash of a second but who do we give the money to? who is trusted now days in Tanzania to given the money so that it can reach the affected people i have true story we In USA we told to contribute to the same Kilosa people through the Mwanakijiji Website and we did but till now there is no updates on how much money were raised and how much were sent to Tanzania red cross, nor did the red Cross acknowledge that they receive the money, so i ask myself why should i contribute to a dead cause? not only that the same Mwanakijiji web site you are supposed to donate you can not be sure that you are contribute to the people of Kilosa or to his own Cause
Second we in abroad we want to donate not only money but also clothes and food etc I myself and my wife we have tried numerous times to contact the Embassy in USA to see if we send the stuff via USPS ( United states postal services) the receiver of the items will not charged the import duty taxes in Tanzania, but unfortunately there is no definitely answer on that so you tell me why should i bother to do any thing t help if i go through all this
The Government it self need to give us directive s o n how to expedite our contribution, they need not to charge taxes to people who want to contribute embassy need to play a big role in this matter either by opening up a center where by we who are abroad can go and drop the items instead of sending them individually i have a lot to say or write but for today let me end here. i hope mr Michuzi will post my comment thanks

  3. True that.

Vinginevyo mizenguo tuu.

  4. £1,000 Dollars? Did you mean GBP 1,000 or USD 1,000?

I heard that one or more of Ali Kiba's shows in the Uk would be dedicated for raising money to help Kilosa floods victims.

Please click following links to know more about how some local artists are playing their parts in helping Kilosa.
