In this land they call Bongoland, everyone is busy looking to take advantage of everyone else.
Everyone lives by his bongos, believing or pretending no one else has any bongos!

That's what we do to our neighbours, our friends, our adversaries, our employers (yes, including the Government), our employees (again, yes! Including civil servants), and the public at large!
That's why we build on open spaces and play grounds;
we throw trash like 'dustbin' is English's redundant vocabulary;
we play loud music every night in lieu of inviting the whole district to whatever it is we are celebrating!
When it rains, public roads and water ways become the easiest way to relieve our sewerage systems;
And, though Swahili in origins, 'panda mti ukate miti' has a meaning only in places where they sell 'Kilimanjaro' at night! Everywhere else, trees must go because we either need charcoal or it might affect our personal fencing wall.

No wonder we have so many 'magambas' to shed, but cannot find any one properly qualified for the shed.
Mjumbe is a gamba, made by seekers of introduction letters to take to Court Clerks;
Mgambo could be a gamba too, made by the Machingas!
The Headteacher is a gamba, in partnership with the owner of a corner shop whose daughter needs admission at his school!
And, Mheshimiwa is a big gamba, because Bongopeople need umeme so much,
and whoever solves that for them deserves a pat on the back!

We cherish evil, and castigate righteousness!!
Those who steal from us are 'smart'; simply availing themselves of a god-sent opportunity;
Those who refrain are the 'crap'; unfit for any public office!!

The Bongomen are really bongoful!! The man they love, cherish, and adore (and posthumously worship??) today was once an Haambiliki Kifimbo!
Another one, the younger one they prefer, was too proud, arrogant, and undemocratic yesterday.
And today's unelectable is tomorrow's greatest democrat ever!
The Bongomen never love what they have!

Bongoland style!! Si mdogo, si mkubwa!
Wote wanaBongo!
Wote wanaBongo!
We are a society that demands (and takes) bribe to elect people into public office;
and then pay them bribes to render public services to us;
A society that pays 'poshos' to our leaders to 'sit',
and accept it when they say they spend it on our begging nuisance!
Indeed, they need it - to sit, and to bribe us!
These you cannot cover with a Constituency Development Fund!
We are a society where status is best described by one's ability to flout the law and public interest and get away with it!!
And we worship those who can do that to us!! Then they brag about it!!!
That's my Bongoland!!

Why blame anyone!!!!!
Everyone is a Tanzanian! A true Tanzanian!! A Bongoman! A Bongowoman!!

ReplyDeleteso absolutely true... we have become a culture that no longer just excuses mediocrity, we actively celebrate it and shun those who try to rise above it.
