Next week, the second Bank M East African CSR Awards will officially open for entries. Companies from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda will be able to enter their corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects and programmes into the Awards on Tuesday, 18th October.

Following the resounding success of the inaugural Bank M East African CSR Awards in May 2010 in Tanzania, the Awards Secretariat, africapractice, in partnership with Bank M Tanzania, the Nation Media Group (NMG) and the East African Business Council (EABC), will join forces once again in a signing ceremony and press conference in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to launch the Awards.

Companies from across the region will be able to enter via the Awards website (www.eastafricancsrawards.com) filling in an online entry form. All entries are free. The competition will close to entries on Friday, 16th December 2011. Each winning project will be presented before a select high-level audience. Keynote speeches will be given during the gala dinner Awards ceremony by East African ministers, East African Business Council directors, members of the judging panel and sponsors scheduled for the end of February 2012 in Tanzania.

“The aim of the awards is to promote outstanding and innovative corporate contributions to East Africa’s sustainable development. The event will showcase and reward the on-going commitment by East African companies to incorporate ethical values, compliance with legal requirements, respect for individuals, involvement in communities and protection of the environment into their business” says Ambrose Nshala, Vice President and Head of Corporate Affairs for Bank M.

In addition to the original four categories of Workplace, Environment, Community Investment and Supply Chain, the second Bank M East African CSR Awards will also include a fifth category - the Elvis Musiba Award for Innovative Partnerships. This award is in honour of the late Chairman of both the judging panel and the awards secretariat 2010 - Mr Elvis Musiba.

“These Awards are in line with our ethos of promoting responsible and sustainable business practices across the region. We are looking forward to working with our partners and encouraging our members to enter and be recognised for their commendable efforts in this field”, Agatha Nderitu, Executive Director, EABC.

The Bank M East African CSR Awards are the only Awards of their kind that celebrate excellent corporate social responsibility activity by Burundi, Kenyan, Rwandan, Tanzanian and Ugandan businesses.
